I am a long time Gnomie, and still subscribe to your newsletter. I purchased one of those Gnomie hints for $5.00. I recognise that TurboFish may be over reacting with his attacks on you, but I also feel you over reacted by shutting down the newsgroups with NO ADVANCE NOTICE. Chris, that just was not professional and it surprises me.
You have/had the right to close them down, since they were groups bearing the name of Lockergnome, but if it was only a few people as you say causing these problems wouldn't it have been best to have Bill ban these people? Or was this not logically feasable?
At the very least we in the groups should have been given advance notice, and your reasons to us as to why you felt the action necessary.
I tried to log in one fine day to share jokes in the Lockergnome humor newsgroups, and see how my fellow gnomies were doing...especially some who were very ill and I was worried about. What I found was Bill's statement that the server was being upgraded. Only later did I find that was not the case, that instead the communtiy, most of whom were your fans...had been eliminated totally. It hurt Chris!
No, I will not stop reading Lockergnome, no I don't now hate you and will not join TurboFish's club against you...but I want you to realize how it felt, and why many Gnomies who were your biggest fans now feel betrayed.

Chris, first I do NOT hate you, Gretchen and that cute dog Sprocket. I've had to re-subscribe so many times because of changing email addresses I've lost count of that too. But, I learned a long time ago that no matter what the topic, public forums always invite the most prolific growth of moronspeak and so I rarely join in the discussion.
But this is one that I couldn't resist. Chris, I envy your success and wish I had been fortunate enough to have the forsight to start something like Lockergnome all those many years ago. Keep up the good work and I hope your business continues to be a money-making venture. That is, after all why anyone goes into business for themselves. I know you spent years living on a shoestring budget and worked as a consultant to help pay the bills. I seem to recall a number of newsletter articles that described you having a full day at some client's site and still taking the time to sit down and publish the next day's missive. I also recall being amazed that you had taken the time to not only read the email that came your way from guys like me but took the time to respond as well. Gretchen is a saint to be willing to put up with all that lost time.
Gretchen, good luck with whatever you do. I didn't start reading Lockergnome newsletters and visiting the LG site because of you but I find your occasional contributions to be refreshing.
Turbophish or whatever, I suspect you have a lot of time on your hands. Because I rather doubt you have quite the work ethic of a guy like Chris. Instead, I suspect you are mostly unemployed or unemployable. If I'm wrong and you are fabulously successful and doing just fine in whatever it is you call a career, well that's ok too. Either way, why don't you just piss off and leave these folks alone. You don't like them, fine. Nobody is saying you have an obligation to visit or read the content of LG.
Bottom line, I think this whole snafu is a little bit sad and little funny. Like a Gene Wilder movie! So, everybody go back to their corners, wipe the sweat out of your eyes and come back in fighting. I'm ready for another round of entertainment.

Ok, I've been a subscriber for longer than I can remember to the newsletters. I sure hope you dont let something like that bother you. I mean for real - I know its easy enough to say it doesn't-and still be bothered by mindlessness ...took me a lifetime of stubbornly sticking to my "guns" (so to speak)
Before it was true. What about the many more who's life you've made a very positive mark on - and at a very young age relatively speaking. I dont agree 100% sometimes either, but so what !
Some individuals should never have been let out of high school....or in this case 3rd grade. Gosh - with my mail address out there - maybe I'll get lucky and he'll write to me !
I'd love it. And tho I shouldn't say such things, he would be in for the surprise of his idiotic young life. But then - I didn't say that did I ?

As far as I know, he has free run to decide which sites to visit. And about Gretchen, She is a very sweet Lady ( and I mean Lady). I for one have the picture prominently displayed in my cube at work. And get lots of positive comments on it.

If Turbofish so dislikes LockerGnome, why does he continue to come here? > IIRC, you had hopes of moving into modeling and were
> using Chris/Lockergnome as kind of a spring board to
> show off your portfolio. It was totally out of place
> and it didn't belong there.
Gee, I musta missed something.
When did an anonymous coward like yourself earn the right to dictate the contents of other peoples' newsletters, imbecile?
