The World Needs Magazines
Lockergnomie Glen Farmer thinks I missed the point on magazines. They have several uses that computers just don't have:
- Rolled up, they make great self-defense weapons. You can poke someone with them or playfully slap your attacker. You just can't do that with a desktop computer.
- You can use them for toilet paper if you run out. Try doing that with electronic devices. It isn't pretty.
- You can throw them in a recycle bin and feel good about yourself. Unless you realize that a tree was killed to make the paper in the first place. But who really thinks about that. You could throw your computer in a recycle bin but it's just not the same or as often.
- You can fall asleep reading them in bed. I doubt if Ponzi would appreciate you doing that with a computer.
- You can sit on them. Don't try this with a computer.
- If you don't like them you can give them away. I find that dropping them off at charitable organizations is the best. Just make sure you drop them off at the door after they are closed. Unless you can run fast. You can give away a computer you don't like. If you are a gazillionaire.
- You can swat flies with them. Try doing that with your computer.
“The list of advantages of magazines over computers is pretty much endless if you think about it. Personally, I'm going to take a nap. Perhaps on a park bench. Covered with… magazines.”

I have a magazine fetish too. My weakness is foreign home decor magazines and a 'zine called “Flaunt”. (The kind that are on super-thick quality paper that cost about $10.00 a pop). I like seeing the actual picture in my hand rather than looking at it from a computer screen. In fact, I have such an over-abundance of magazines, it kind of eliminates whatever home decor scheme I have. Okay, maybe you're right about the whole magazine thing.

I truly understand with what you said Chris. If information can be attained online why subscribe for a magazine. I know for a GEEK magazine or Internet, magazineÂ’s work out to be an ideal way to get information. For me Internet is the primary source for getting information. I don't read that much but sometimes I do just a little bit, as there are some things you just want on a paper. As I spend 12 to 13 hours during a day in front of a computer, and sometimes I just want to get away and read something. Probably thatÂ’s when it helps.
I like the points that you came up with especially this one - You can use them for toilet paper if you run out. Try doing that with electronic devices. It isn't pretty.
