The Ultimate Media Managers
I've been prepping for tomorrow's live show with the authors of Delicious Library:
Get your Mac, a webcam, and Delicious Library and rediscover your home library. Just point any FireWire digital video camera, like an Apple iSight, at the barcode on the back of any book, movie, music, or video game. Delicious Library does the rest. The barcode is scanned and within seconds the item's cover appears on your digital shelves filled with tons of in-depth information downloaded from one of six different web sources from around the world.
That's great, so long as you have OS X. This afternoon, however, I stumbled upon MediaMan:
MediaMan let you create and organize your own media catalog for free. MediaMan is capable of managing all kinds of media in your collection, including books, DVDs, CDs, VHS tapes, software and game titles. Use the webcam barcode scanner to make the process even faster. Item status management let you keep an eye on the lent items, and never pay extra for the rented ones. All items can be divided and re-divided into nested categories according to your wish. And finally, the collection can be exported for printing or synchronizing with your PDAs.
Amazing, free, and built for Windows. MediaMan is not without its share of bugaboos, but they're relatively minor in the grand scheme of things (IMHO).
Private Domain Registration from GoDaddy is a smart thing to do. When you register a domain, your contact information is immediately made available to anyone who wants to see it. Plus, as a listener of The Chris Pirillo Show, enter code CHRIS3 and get your .COM domain name for just $6.95 a year. Get your piece of the internet at GoDaddy!
