The Saddest Day of My Life
Well, after a week of avoiding regular coffee, I decided to give it a go this evening. It was a major no go. I downed an extra large Peet's, walked around the neighborhood, sat down for dinner at a nice restaurant, ordered, and by the time I took my first bite, the caffeine rush hit and I became sick to my stomach. I'll have to scale it back to a small breve per day (after the show), if anything. My body can't handle anything more right now. I'm too nervous, and I need to get back into a few routines before I believe my mind will take it easy on the rest of me. This isn't easy, because you know how much I love Peet's – but I have to stop for now.

Well, maybe instead of drinking coffee, substitute it for something else. Maybe when your craving for coffee maybe eat something or drink something else.

I never understood caffeine withdrawal; I drink coffee 5 to 6 times a day, when I work specially. But on vacation I usually drink only once during breakfast, I’ve never had any sickness when I go back to the routine. BTW I drink very strong Spanish espresso, as per Italians it should be serve in a little tasa, I drink a big cup about 2 ½ the size of regular cups.

I acquired my caffeine addiction in the Navy.
I haven't stopped yet.
I figure that smoking two packs of cigarettes a day will probably kill me first.
When it comes to coffee, my tastes are pretty simple. No decaf! I usually get by with 3 to 4 32 oz. mugs a day.

Hey Chris,
I quit drinking caffeine over a year ago, ok I really quit smoking and drinking anything but water over a year ago and I feel great – You should give it a try! I also go to the gym tree times a week and bike on the weekends, IÂ’m 36 now and never have had this much energy.

coffee makes you sick? count yourself lucky, you can't get addicted. heh. coffee will be the death of me. i'm at 4 cups a day, and i'm only 16 years into what's going to be a terribly short life if i keep this up.
anyway, good luck with the coffee thing anyway.

Hrm, it seems my previous comment didn't get posted. So here it goes again. =] “In other news today, Peet's coffee stock drops tramendously, causing the shop to go out of business. Why the sudden stock drop? Chris Pirillo, that's why..” Hehe.

Chris- You get a BIG THANK YOU from me. Because of you, I found a Peet's about 15min from my house (didn't even know it was there). While it IS out of my way, the coffee was GREAT and I will have to stop by whenever I'm in the area… or maybe more if I can sneak past the wife! :)

Chris, I used to be a real addict. I would have terrible headaches all weekend because I didn't get started early enough if I slept in.
I have cut down to two mugs a day. This seems to give the little bit of push I need, but I never have the associated headaches anymore.
But the truth is, I just wonder if you are up against your personal limitations. We all have them. Your plate has been awfully full in the recent weeks. Maybe you will feel better after relaxing a bit. Here's hoping and praying so.

Chris,
Let your body clear itself of the toxins that have built up in your system from all the cafeine. Be well. I'm glad your back posting. Even when you're sick you're thoughts are pretty funny to read.–Thom

Ugh, I tried to give up caffeine a couple years ago. A few years ago, I went a week without drinking coffee as well, but one morning, I decided to have a cup. Well, my caffeine tolerance obviously lowered during my coffee fast, so a few minutes into drinking it, my heart was pounding so hard and fast, it felt like I was about to have a heart attack. Anyway, I'm back to drinking my 5-7 Starbucks a day (that's all they have here.) It's not the healthiest habit in the world, I know, so shame on me ;-)
