The Lab Launches with Leo Laporte
Leo and his crew invited Ponzi and me up to Vancouver today to help them kick off his new show, “The Lab with Leo Laporte.” We drove in late last night, and will be returning home before tomorrow morning (likely, taking off this evening). Cat Schwartz is up here, too! It’s just like old times – almost. We’re on a real, “live” television set – but the energy is different. Then again, it would be impossible to match the spirit we once had at together at TechTV. Still, this is the next bestest thing – if only momentarily.
Ponzi will be doing a segment on online dating (alhtough she’s hoping to get started with an online video series demystifying mortgage loan documents soon). Cat’s doing “high-tech mommy” products and Skype demonstrations. I’m running through the current beta of UndoTV (even though there’s a much more amazing version that will be unleashed before UndoTV even goes live). We’re all backstage right now, enjoying the company.
Here’s my “live” webcam, uploading images from behind the scenes (refreshes once every minute):

That’s awesome. I miss the old days too… You guys were fantastic.
I’m looking forward to seeing the new show. Especially if the old CFH gang is kicking it off…

Yay!! That is exciting news. I will always miss TechTV. What a great network that was. I remember whenever I’d be watching Call for Help, my wife would come in, groan, and mumble something about the “guy who wears pajamas on TV” (Leo). I guess she thought his “stylish” shirts looked like PJ’s.

I just found your blog a couple days ago and I really enjoy it. This is my first comment and I wanted to let you know that I too miss those old ZDTV/TechTV days…

Is there a reason he went up to Vancouver?
I thought his (laportes) studio and facilities were all in San Fran.
Is he moving there or commuting?
Inquiring minds and all that.

Chris, it is amazing to me how you constantly link yourself with CFH when you were only there for about a year AND they fired you. Why not tell everyone why they fired you?
You and I know exactly why you were fired and why you won’t let your readers know. I was there at TechTV and know the whole story.
Why not come clean?

That’s great news to be able to see some of you guys together again.I’ve been listening to Leo’s podcasts while I take my long walks but I really miss the original Tech TV.I’ve been involved in computers since the Altair days and microcode, and I really miss the real meaty computer info.I think the reincarnated G4TV has sunk into a mindless game junkie’s cheat factory.WE WANT REAL TECH TV ! I wish you guts all the luck in the world !

Please for all things holly… Bring back Tech TV. This G4 TV makes my head hurt. I really dont know who its geard towards. No one is that ignorant to sit and watch the same program for 8 episodes straight without learning anything, are they? I like computers but I am not a tech head. I found TTV to be very helpful and it actually got my wife interested in computers. She hates technology. G4 set us all back 15 years. What ever it takes please come back… all of you…

Congratulations on the new show launch !
I have noticed that the lighting in your studio appears to be darker than it was in the Toronto studio.
Cheers !

The right English is “Leo and his crew invited Ponzi and I” and not “and me”.

Please tell me that you didn’t hire a funeral parlour designer to set up your new show. High tech should be at the least bright and airy. The decor, lighting and the dark background of your new show reminds me of the last funeral that I attended. The average cell phone has more brilliance. Fire the guy and please change the set. To LoneE, RE: Grammer
I think the original is correct;
eg Leo and the crew invited….me
not, Leo and the crew invited…I
At least thats that is the way I was “learned” in school

Sorry, LoneE , but the correct English is actually as originally posted.
Consider
“Leo invited me.” “Leo invited Ponzi”
If Leo invites both, then it becomes “Leo invited Ponzi and me”
Respectfully,Liz

I’m so glad this is on city-tv from Toronto. It’s great since I used to have to pay for digital cable to get G4/Tech TV, but this is on analog cable for me so it fills my heart with geek loving joy. : )

Honestly I though “AIR” in Adobe Air stands for “Rich Internet Applications”. As you can see RIA is a adobe and tech acronym, but backwards its AIR. …But you said it means nothing, but their are very close commons in that.
Anywho! Keep up the good work, great show.
