The Good Side of iPhone 2.0
Like anyone else who tunes into my live streaming life, Mr. Staggs knows that I am addicted to my iPhone. He personally has an iPod Touch, using the new 2.0 operating system software. During his transition to 2.0, he has come across some highs and lows that many people would not notice. He sent in his list of top three ‘good’ features, and the top three ‘bad’ ones, as well.
Good Features
- Screen Capture I love having this!
- YouTube Integration in Safari There’s nothing better than logging onto your website and seeing a link that will take me directly to the YouTube app for any given link… instead of seeing the blue box with question marks.
- Video Play inside of Music app In the old iPhone operating system, all that would play is audio when listening to a podcast. Now, the video plays, and allows you to watch it upright or sideways.
Bad Features
- Freezing! When apps are downloaded directly to the iPod Touch, many of them tend to freeze, or be extremely sluggish.
- Please Hold As you have mentioned before, the reboots are slower with this new 2.0. It stinks when you’re out with friends trying to show off your new iPhone or Apps… and have to spend ten minutes rebooting the daggone thing. (YES, that’s an exaggeration!)
- Still Waiting for Flash Yes, there are so many things that could be on the list. However, I. Want. FLASH!!!
What are your thoughts? What’s on your “good” list of new 2.0 features, and what’s on the “bad” side for you?

No flash for you!
Seriously – why is everyone so het up over flash? I personally rather detest the bloody thing – IMO there are much nicer ways to animate your site than relying on a plugin.
So, Chris, enlighten me – why so flashy?

Screw Flash. I’m already turning off push services, setting email checking to manual, disabling BT and Wifi just to get acceptable battery life. The last thing I need to waste the battery on is stupid Flash banner ads.
Access to Flash videos would be nice, but with the YouTube client, and now Truveo and vSnax, I don’t miss Flash at all.

Yes, the iPhone 3G needs flash really bad! That is one of the draw backs of the phone, and going to a web page with flash video and just seeing the blue box icon! I sure hope Apple implements this very soon! Other than that love my iPhone 3G!

Apps are probably the best thing on the new version of the iPhone OS, closely followed by push email and all of that.
But for me the worst thing on the new OS is CRASHING! At least once a day for me. I hate it, but I heard a new version is coming out – 2.0.1 soon.

I suppose a good and bad point combined would be the maps,. Where I live the 3G and even Edge connection is very poor,.. Granted it was a good idea to use google maps as they are a terrific tool but it would be that much better to have the maps integrated within the phone,.. But it is the first introduction of the SatNav chip and it can now be taken advantage of !!

I agree with these comments. Personally I think it is turning in to a sort of Windows Vista. Apps are always crashing and start times are outragously huge on the iPod touch 2.0. I think Apple should slow down on the new features and start developing a cleaner os for it like mac os x snow leopard.

I still have the old iPhone with the new software update. I was impressed with one major upgrade that affects how I use the iPhone & YouTube. First off I have a Toyota Prius second generation that I have modified. I view all my iPhone & iPod movies through my navigation screen while my car speakers provide the audio. Up until the release of the 2.0 software, you could only watch YouTube videos on the device screen, they could not be exported for viewing using the iPod/iPhone component video cord which is what I use to connect to my car’s screen. The new software unlocked this feature and now I can watch YouTube video’s in my car once they are downloaded from the network. I’m still using the old iPhone so I can only view the edge network quality video’s. I have yet to find out if the iPhone will download a higher quality video using the 3g Network when available. If so I would love to upgrade so my friends can choose to watch anything they want during our car trips!

I definately enjoy the apps and the app store with the 2.0 software. And I agree with the freezing/restarting problem, it’s a real pain. Theres still areas where they can improve but they have done alot, and they’re going to keep improving.
