[...] As I mentioned a few days ago, Ponzi and I are taking an Alaskan cruise next week. Normally, this would mean we’d be cut off from civilization - but our Holland America liner is Internet-enabled! That’s the good news: a cruise with connectivity. The bad news? It’s rather expensive. I received Internet package rates from our travel agent today, and if I calculated the numbers properly - I’m going to be incommunicado unless I can find a sponsor.
I sailed on HA's Prinsendam last summer (Rome to Amsterdam) and used their internet access to update my website as we went. After every day's sight-seeing I down-loaded the pics from my camera to my laptop. I did the editing and web layout off-line. After dinner I took my laptop to the ships library (though it could connect in other places, but the library was very quiet), I uploaded the pics and checked my email. I was impressed very much with the speed and my site was very image intensive.

As I recall it wasn't that much money either. It was $100 for enough hours to cover my 15 day cruise.

For lenses, you might want to check out www.rentglass.com. They are a recent start-up so their inventory is a little limited but might be worth checking out. Prices seem reasonable. No bodies though.

A professional camera store will sometimes rent out equipment for a number of days, typically to fill holes in a studio's shooting arsenal. I know that some places here in NY do it and also in the Bay Area in CA. A quick search reveals that Optechs Camera and Glazer's both rent digital equipment in Seattle.

What do you have to shoot with now versus what are you looking to rent?
