E-Mail:

The Dumbest Thing Bush Has Ever Done. Ever.

Okay, I'm trying not to be an alarmist here, but… I'm not quite sure this is the safest thing for America right now. I trust my government less and less with every passing day (whether it's controlled by Republicans or Democrats, as they're only looking out for themselves). Follow the money trail, my friends.

And what if the shoe was on the other foot - if it isn't already? American ports should be controlled by American interests, period - just like I believe [insert country here] ports should be controlled by [insert country here] interests.

Just in case anyone is wondering

Amazing but true. He just keeps on outdoing himself, it's sure getting to be a long list.

You guys need to do your homework on this. These ports were never run by the US in the first place. Plus, it isn't like Bush SOLD the ports to the UAE… they simply bought the company that had control of them before.
Don't get me wrong because I'm not a big fan of this happening. But before jumping on the bandwagon, get your facts straight.

Exactly. P & O got bought and surprise surprise, any assetts they held got transfered as well.

Why is this so bad? A foreign company is managing a port - big deal! They will still have to fulfill any legal requirements for inbound cargo security, so smuggling could not be any more of a concern than, say, a mafia controlled port. Its not like they can take it home if they decide to leave. Settle down, xenophobia is most ugly when paracticed by Americans.

Again, more leftist alarmism. A British company already owns the ports. If Osama Bin Laden himself bought these things he'd have to still comply with US Customs inspections. If anything the fact that the UAE is the primary owner is a good thing (makes sense from a money perspective). Even if the UAE aren't exacly our friends, don't you think that we'd take a harder look at the imports running thorugh those ports?

Maybe if they own it they won't bomb it. One thing less to worry about.

Uh, isn't it profiling to spearhead an investigation into a firm just because of where they are based.
Not saying that I'm against it, but, well, it is.

It's not leftist alarm! UAE was a source of money and fund transfers for the people who did 9/11. Additionally, the Bush Administration has rebuffed all requests for funds significant enough to protect our ports. Cargos are inspected only about 5% of the time. What could or might happen with the other 95%. ?
It might not be in our best interest to have UAE running our ports as opposed to some other foreign interest. Sorta like the fox guarding the hen house. As for Bush himself, he's not involved enough in government in general to be accused of “the dumbest thing ever”. He's just the puppet for Cheny, Rumsfeld and their ilk.

Ya' know….?
I canceled all my Lockergnome newsletters when political discussion by children who have never fought for a belief or taken an oath to serve and protect their country ruined the **** coming out of silly corn valley. I see things have not changed.
Every headline you list, every liberal web blog you post, has the slant of the hate Bush crowd. Not one has their facts straight. Not one is interested in the truth.
I care not which political path you follow. They're all “Liars, Thieves, & SOB's. Elected to deal with the rest of the world's liars, thieves, & sob's.” But posting leftist propaganda like this is beneath you Mr. Pirillo.

Nice! It only took 13 posts to degenerate into idiotic name calling.
People don't spend 8 billion for something just to blow it up.
Besides, this sort of thing falls under the Commerice Department not the Executive branch. President Bush (that's right Mr. Pirillo, it's President Bush, the President or Mr. President. We spend 8 years being respectiful to your guy the least you can do it repay the favor) isn't actively trying to hand over the ports to terrorists.

Be cool,
Here is a good editorial that both sides should enjoy.
Arguing on the Internet is like running a race in the Special Olympics. No matter who wins, you are still retarded.

There still exist Bush supporters in this country? Honest to god, I can't understand why. He is an embarassment, above all else. Honestly, he is an embarassment.

Nothing like the freedom of a liberal…
It must be nice to be completely unencumbered by the thought process.
Obviously you are well versed in the 4 word soundbytes being spewed by the news. Before you go off with the knee-jerk reaction, have you researched or even considered?
Dubai/UAE is running out of oil. It will be gone in ten years and they know it. So they are converting their economy to a largely tourism based model. This means it is in thier direct interest to keep the west happy. 9-11 had a much worse effect on their economy than it did ours.
Dubai is willing to spend the 3 billion dollars necessary up front to upgrade the ports to the newly established security standards. Nobody else is.
Dubai won't be in charge of the security anyway. Thats what the port authority is for.
And last but not least… The real reason an American company can't afford to run our ports? That would be the longshoremans union. If you really want to ***** about jobs going offshore, ***** at the unions, not the President.
Ok, we know you libs are short on facts to argue with. So feel free to call me a name or question my heritage if you feel the need to lash out. I'll just smile and accept you're realizing your defeat.
