The Desktop Linux Summit Wrapup
“Six minutes, Chrissy P. and you’re on.” We’re streaming three hours of fresh audio from the summit – starting in just a few minutes. We have several interviews to offer you this time around (with recognizable names and brands). When our new server is set up, we’ll be uploading each interview as a separate media file – but tune in now to hear what’s going on before then. The stream will go live at the top of the hour, as always. Next week, we’ll be able to start taking live calls – just like we used to do, only better – with more time on our hands (and no constraints). People ask what the show is all about, and it’s difficult to wrap it into a simple phrase… podcast, online radio, live broadcast, streaming media, tech culture program…
Wikipedia says: Podcasting is different from broadcasting and webcasting in that it “casts” audio not by a mechanism of centrally pushing audio out to listeners, but by the mechanism of the (distributed) listeners pulling (downloading) the audio files automatically. Podcasters publish (or “podcast”) audio files, even in the likeness of radio shows, but it is the individual listener who initiates the “cast” through their subscription and automatic download of the audio program.
Three hours of geeky clean fun… whatever. Well, not quite “clean” this time around, as Doc Searls used a few not-so-ready-for-prime-time words (sorry, our editing time is crunched). Oh, did you catch yesterday’s USA Today? Jake was quoted, and The Chris Pirillo Show was mentioned in their gigantic article on podcasting. Okay, so… by the time you read this, the show will have already started – so tune in to the live broadcast now. Do it!
