Just want to point you, guys, to a link; where you can learn some true facts about the differences between Cat 5e and Cat 5. Check it out and make your own mind.

"What is Enhanced Category 5?
Enhanced Category 5 is a Specification designed for data networks to support very high-speed data transmission, like Gigabit Ethernet, at a bandwidth of 100 MHz."

OK, I get myself involved in a WWF match as all spectators do, but I'd like to cool off and come back to reality. There's a university nearby, and I've seem some little things break up big friendships there. Yesterday's comments were a bit out of the ordinary, and a lot of things were said, but Dale Carnegie once stated, "Condemning, criticizing, and complaining just makes things all the worse."
I'd like to see all of us, including myself, get back to just having fun and joking with one another.

If you put cat 5 cabling with cat 5e connectors, you know what you got a cat 5 network and a waste of money in connectors.
A network category will determined by the lower common denominator of all elements, ie you use cat 3 cabling and cat 5e connectors you will end up with cat 3 network (usable for 10 MB).
On the other hand Steve Pierce is right more or less in the price difference between conforming to cat 5 or cat 5e, as long as you can get wholesale pricing in your cabling components the price of your network as a whole would be 10%-15% more expensive if you choose to go with 5e instead of plain cat 5.
It would only be wise now if your are doing some complex cabling in your home and you expect to upgrade to gigabit in less than 10 years. Something that will not be very common in the average house hold for an Power User.

Is it me or are these arguments getting a little dull? I think 'Next Topic' was a pretty good comment.

I don't know where those prices are coming from, but here 1,000 feet is over $100.
