The Best Image Editing Software

http://live.pirillo.com/ - What do you use to edit your photos? Clay asked what Chris recommends for editing digital photos.

There are a lot of different software tools that you can use, and Chris has used them all.

Paint Shop Pro is a powerful alternative to Photoshop, and has a free demo:

Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI combines automatic photo fixes, precision editing controls and a built-in photo organizer, making it the easiest way to get professional-looking photos, fast!

Photoshop is very advanced and powerful, but can be unwieldy and pricey. They offer Photoshop Elements, but that can still be overkill for the average user.

Paint.Net is a free utility that brings modern day photo editing to the .Net platform:

Paint.NET is free image editing and photo manipulation software for computers that run Windows. It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. An active and growing online community provides friendly help, tutorials, and plugins.

The GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP for short) is a free, open source, and very powerful image manipulation utlity:

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.

Chris got Ponzi to use Picasa, which has basic photo editing features:

Picasa is a free software download from Google that helps you:

  • Locate and organize all the photos on your computer.
  • Edit and add effects to your photos with a few simple clicks.
  • Share your photos with others through email, prints, and on the web: it’s fast, easy and free.

LOL , put It figures, Chris How Much do all the Spyware programs that you PUSH On the World PAY YOU?????????????

snip> Chris got Ponzi to use Picasa, which has basic photo editing features:

Picasa was a great program Before Google bought it and add the Spyware They Needed.

Instead of Pushing Spyware , Why Not Let People Know What Any of Googles so-called free ware truly does. Google as M$ does Never Give anything away, YOU PAY THE HARD WAY.

Google is in Big Trouble In Europe , or have you not read about the Law Suite.
M$ Lost In Europe and WMP Is Safe Over There. Kind of Funny that Europe Will Not Put UP With M$ and Googles SPYWARE and CHRIS Gets Paid to Push It. Well Maybe Chris is just a Fool. I bet he is still trying to get Vista To Work , still rotflmaaaaaaaaasssssssssoooooffffffff
Have Fun BILL

As a someone who has “intefered” with images for many years I have to say that Paint Shop Pro was very good when owned by JASC but has gone downhill since Corel took over. Ulead is very good but now they too have been bought by Corel and I fear they are doomed..

My view is that the best program is PhotoShop Elements for most people. It is powerful but the learning curve is not too steep.

GIMP is too much for the average user and the assistance very meager.

Paint.net is fine for minor adjustments but not much else and the same goes for Picassa which is basically an organising tool rather than an editing one.

I run an Elements SIG group in the SF bay area and have produced a lot od tutorials for Elements which are free, anyone interested please send a message to me at barry@bkbrown.net.

I’m using photoscape. It’s all-in-one style free photo editor.

For daily editing (not the major stuff where I might need to get rid of wrinkles and stuff), I use IrfanView. It’s free, it loads quickly (in about a second!) and has a lot of features.

Good for resizing, enhancing colors, making panorama images, rotating/flipping, converting to greyscale… It’s one of the first programs I install when I’m working on a new computer system.
