E-Mail:

That Darn Outlook PST

Seems I forgot to compact one of my PSTs in Outlook (which I should've done frequently). It's now over the 2GB barrier and I had to truncate the last 100MB from it. Thankfully, it was only my NewsGator folder. Perhaps it's time I move away from Outlook as a news aggregator? FeedDemon has only gotten better with time, and it's a lot less unweildy as an information manager. Yes, I realize that newer versions of Outlook don't have this shortcoming (limiting the size of a PST), but I also realize that Outlook versions beyond 2000 are unusable. I've gone to great lengths to prove to pepole how Outlook XP and Outlook 2003 suck, and people “in the know” completely agree with me. You can't argue with suck, man. Today's suck, however, is totally my sucking fault. You can't count on a program to remind you what to do - not even if it's a program that has reminders (like Outlook).

Personally, I have no problem with Outlook 2003 but then again, I don't live in it. I use it mainly for mail and as an RSS reader using Attensa. Maybe if I was a power user of the program, I would concur with the suck.

RSS and EMAIL should not live in the same application. I “live” in outlook 2003 as an email (PIM) client only. As for RSS, Nick is a genuis! Feeddemon rocks with its features, stability and customer service.

Chris drops the ball again on why he thinks Outlook sucks. To be honest with you Chris OE 4 and Windows 98 should do you just fine.

I still have no clue why you don't use Outlook 2003. It's more stable, more useable, and doesn't have these archaic limitations!

One solution to NewsGator ‘blot’, is to create a seperate .PST file for NewsGator messages, then you simply have Outlook open two .PST files. In this situation your main .PST file doesn’t get blotted from ‘news’ messages and you optional don’t need to backup the other .PST file.
