I recently attended the WTIA Fast Pitch Forum & Technology Showcase. The conference featured two dozen of the hottest technology companies in Washington presenting their business in a competition for “Best In Show”. TeachStreet is an online community for people who love to learn, and was one of the three “Top Presenters”.

TeachStreet is an online community that brings learners and teachers together. It’s a place where people who love to learn can find classes that are right for them. They also offer a public forum that helps teachers, coaches and other experts share what they know. In the process, TeachStreet helps them grow their businesses with online tools used to promote classes, workshops and events. This allows the experts to focus on what they do best – teach!

The TeachStreet team is a bunch of dreamers and tech Geeks who want to encourage you to get out from behind your computer, head into the world, and learn something new! They support that goal by helping people find experts in your neighborhood who can teach you anything you might be interested in learning.

TeachStreet has extensive class coverage in several cities across the US, and they’re growing every day. Whether you want to learn to sew in Seattle, or how to dance in Denver – TeachStreet has you covered.

I recently attended the WTIA Fast Pitch Forum & Technology Showcase. The conference featured two dozen of the hottest technology companies in Washington presenting their business in a competition for “Best In Show”. Daptiv provides on-demands work management solutions that adapt to your business, so you can work how you work.

Daptiv thinks there’s a better way to work. You have things you need to do. They feel that things like managing servers, installing software and planning upgrades are things they should take care of for you. Their solution for managing projects includes a collaboration environment to make it easier to work with the tools you already know and trust.

Poor Jeff–he looks to have aged 10 years since the ongoing financial troubles and RIFs at Daptiv began. Very interesting that he’s still claiming the leaders quadrant for Daptiv (they were dropped from it for 2009). Also interesting is his statement that CA Clarity and HP are Daptiv’s main competition. I wouldn’t have positioned Daptiv on the same strata as these pricey platinum PPM vendors. Also, from what I’ve seen of the new Agile offering, it appears to be a nice add-on to the Daptiv PM product, but a lousy stand-alone offering, considering the robust solutions already in that space. It will be interesting to see how they position it.

I recently attended the WTIA Fast Pitch Forum & Technology Showcase. The conference featured two dozen of the hottest technology companies in Washington presenting their business in a competition for “Best In Show”. BuddyTV’s goal is to bring entertainment and content closer to fans. We do this by building communities around popular TV shows and movies. Fans are able to learn more about their favorite shows through interviews, news features, and by connecting with other fans.

Star Points are earned by users when they help build the BuddyTV community. Users with more Star Points gain recognition and privileges that other members don’t receive. Users earn Star Points for things like playing games and quizzes, creating quizzes of their own, adding favorites to their profile, inviting others to join, and reading articles on the site.

Users can buy virtual gifts for their friends using their Star Points, or use them to bid in real auctions. The virtual gifts cost 1,000 Star Points, and the auctions depend on the bid placed before.

I recently attended the WTIA Fast Pitch Forum & Technology Showcase. The conference featured two dozen of the of the hottest technology companies in Washington presenting their business in a competition for “Best In Show”. Swype presents to you a way to type blindingly fast on any touch-screen device.

Swype provides a faster and easier way to input text on any screen. By swiping your finger or stylus across the screen keyboard, you can input words faster and easier than with any other data input method… even at over 50 wpm! Trace your finger in a path across the keys needed to make your word. There’s no need to be very accurate, which allows for super-fast text entry.

The application is designed perfectly to work across any touch-screen devices, such as phones, tables, game consoles, televisions and more.

Thank goodness for an application like Swype. Do you have any idea how much time this can save you?!

Social media is rapidly changing the way companies do business. I was fortunate to moderate a panel discussion in conjunction with WTIA recently, where we discussed the various ways that companies need to integrate social media into their daily routines. At a minimum, they need to be aware of what’s being said about them in the millions of online conversations that take place every day. Ideally, they need to learn how to be active participants in them. The panel provided ideas of how companies can put social media to work for them.

The panel experts consisted of:

Louise Rasho – Senior Manager, Marketing Communications, Microsoft Office Live
Navin Mithel – Managing Director of eCommerce and CRM, Alaska Airlines
Blake Cahill – Senior Vice President Marketing, Visible Technologies
Brian Goffman – CEO & Co-founder, Optify

There were too many wonderful points and ideas presented for me to possibly outline them all here. I highly recommend you watch – or listen to – this video in its entirety. Even if you think you are an expert when it comes to social media – you may just learn a thing or two.

Thank you to everyone who attended this discussion both in person, and via the live stream. We had a great time, and learned one heck of a lot of things.

I recently attended the WTIA Fast Pitch Forum & Technology Showcase. The conference featured two dozen of the of the hottest technology companies in Washington presenting their business in a competition for “Best In Show”. Picnik makes your photos fabulous with easy to use yet powerful editing tools. Tweak to your heart’s content, then get creative with oodles of effects, fonts, shapes, and frames.

If you already use Flickr for your photos (here’s what I do with mine), you’re only a click away from taking a Picnik. That’s how I discovered it, and it’s worked fairly well for me to this point.

An added note is that Yahoo has rolled out some new services recently, to hopefully cut down on the number of additional sites that patrons will ever need to visit. One of these is called Edit Photos by Picnik. This app provides users with a quick way to crop, touch up, add effects and more to any of the photos located in their inbox or online. How much easier can it get?

Picnik is a great service, one that I myself use frequently. If you haven’t checked it out – you’re absolutely missing out!

I recently attended the WTIA Fast Pitch Forum & Technology Showcase. I Can Haz Cheezburger is well-known online for their hilarious LOLCat pictures.

Pet Holdings, Inc. is the parent company of the I Can Haz Cheezburger website. Creating a Lolcat is simple. Upload a picture, add a caption and share it with the World. There are now tons of options for registered users. You can even re-caption the photos others have submitted!

Lolcats served up 2TB of data in just two weeks. You read that right… two Terrabytes!! When Pet Holdings took over the Lolcats industry, they knew nothing about memes, nor funny cat pictures. They went back to the basics and did what worked. Obviously it worked well, since they’re still in business – and still growing like crazy!

If you haven’t ever visited the Lolcats site, you have no idea what you’re missing. I dare you to go there, and NOT smile.
