Textorizer has to be one of the coolest pieces of software I’ve ever come across. Not only is it free and cross-platform… it’s just COOL. It is a program that allows you to make pictures formed with text.

It’s so simple to do. Open a picture of your own, and click “Add Text”. Then open a word document that you’ve saved on your computer – one that contains all of the words you’ve typed out that you want to appear on the picture. Click on “Textorize!” and watch. Your picture is re-rendered, using the words that you input!! How fricken awesome is that?

You can play around with the settings once it has Textorized. Change up the colors, saturation and more! Go ahead and download it – you know you’re dying to try it!

I’m a sucker for cool media tools, especially those that work within a web browser. UncleJohn sent me an email that had some text, and some neat looking pictures at the bottom. Once I realized the pictures were actually words, I had to pass this along. Textorizer allows you to turn your words into art.

This tool takes as input an image in PNG format, as well as a text file containing some text, and produces an SVG file which reconstructs the original image using parts of the text scattered around. All you do is enter the URL to the image you want your words to end up creating. Enter the words you want to use (one per line), and set your size and output parameters. Textorizer does the rest for you!

I used the classic Lockergnome logo. When I pressed the “textorize” button, you can see actual words… Geek, Pirillo, and Chris. You may try to right-click and save the image, but you won’t be able to. If you view the source within your browser, you’ll see tons of numbers. It’s SVG – Scalable Vector Graphics. You can take that SVG and put it anywhere.

It’s easy, it’s free… and it’s cool. What more could you ask for?

I should have been an English teacher, according to my degree. I never did become one, but I’m still addicted to words. I love to write. I also enjoy good design, and like playing around with word art. When I found this website, I couldn’t stop playing with words!

Wordle is a free site that allows you to generate “word clouds” from any text you type or paste into a box. With a few simple mouse clicks, you can have your text rearranged, change the colors and even change the font. Once you create it, your Wordle is yours. You can save it to your computer, or to their website to share with friends.

Make sure you have the latest version of Java installed on your computer, or you won’t be able to view the Wordles. You don’t have to register for the website. Simply paste in a bunch of text, the more the better. Think up your own words, copy the words to your favorite song, or even use your wedding vows like I did. The words used the most freqently will be larger than others. You can even save the Wordle as a PDF file, and then make it the wallpaper on your desktop.

Even though the service is free, you can send a small donation to the author if you would like. I sure did. This website is just COOL.
