Tips for Taking Better Photos

  • Get closer to your subject. Many pictures can easily become higher quality if you simply use your “cheater zoom” feature – scoot closer! Look at the whole frame, not just your subject. If there is a lot of ‘background noise’ in the frame, then move closer to what or who it is you are trying to take a picture of. Instead of having to crop out much of the shot – narrow it down before you take it!
  • Keep an eye out for what else is in the background. Take a look at what or who may be lurking in the background of your picture. How many photos have you deleted because cousin Nell was making a crazy face behind little Tommy? You know exactly what I’m talking about. We all have pictures like these, and we end up not keeping them. Be aware of what’s behind your subject.
  • Check your composition. Don’t only center the object of your picture every time… mix it up a little! If you take the shot with them off to the side a bit, it adds pizzaz and dynamics to the photo you otherwise wouldn’t have.
  • Find a new angle on life! It’s a habit to take a picture of something or someone at your own eye level. Well stop that! Take a picture from higher up, or even below what you’re shooting. Have fun with it!
  • Take too many pictures. Yes, you heard me correctly. Take too many pictures. We all know we’ll find something about several of what we take that we just can’t live with. Then, we of course delete the shot. Why not take “too many”, and feel secure knowing that you’ll definitely come out with tons of excellent shots… even after doing your deletion?
