During our GoToMeeting last week, EvilHomer decided to show us how to access a hidden music file within Windows XP. Let’s follow along, and see what we discover!

First, make sure your hidden files and folders are set to show. To do this:

• Click “My Computer” to open an Explorer window
• Select Tools menu, and click on Folder Options
• Click the View tab
• Under the Hidden Files and Folders heading, select “Show hidden files and folders”
• Uncheck the “hide protected operating systems files” options
• Uncheck the “Hide file extensions for known file types” box
• Click “yes” to confirm, then click “ok”

Ok, now that we’ve done that, let’s find that music!

• Click again on My Computer to open the Explorer window
• Open the Windows folder
• Open the System32 folder
• Open the OOBE (Out of Box Experience) folder
• Open the Images folder
• Locate and open in your media player the file Title

Ah-hah! That’s the sound you hear when you first set up Windows XP… which may have been just the other day?
