This is the last in our series of travel videos – for now, at least. We have uploaded quite a few of these in the past several months. Each one is full of the places that you – the community – think we should visit if we should ever travel to your hometowns. This last installment is a list of places you don’t want to miss if you ever happen to find yourself in Florida!

Daytona Beach – This is likely one of the most famous beaches in the US. It’s a beautiful stretch of sand, with so many different things to do you won’t know where to start.
Daytona International Speedway – Daytona is the home of one of the most-loved race tracks in the country. It’s a super speedway, which means it’s a much larger and faster track than most. It’s also where racing legend Dale Earnhardt died during the last lap of the Daytona 500 in February of 2001.
Bucca di Beppo – This is one of the best Italian restaurants on the face of the planet. There are locations spread around the country, but you’ll find one right in Daytona Beach, as well.
Ponce de Leon Lighthouse – Completed in 1887, the Ponce de Leon Inlet Light Station was built when the area was known as Mosquito Inlet. After decades of restoration by the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse Preservation Association, it stands today as one of the best preserved, most complete Light Stations in the nation.
Congo River Mini Golf – Travel to a world of excitement… from high atop giant waterfalls and rocky summits to the depths of mysterious caves, Congo River Golf delivers the best in family fun!
Jacksonville Zoo – Escape to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens for the only walking safari in Northeast Florida. Discover the earth’s wildlife through interactive and educational experiences. A true family adventure, the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is growing and changing daily and is dedicated to the consistently improving.
Jacksonville Museum of Science and History – This is a very interesting museum consisting of loads of historical content, including Dino- Raur. Dino-Raur is a dinosaur exhibit with “real” moving, and noise making dinosaurs. Water Worlds is another exhibit, where you get a glimpse into three different coral reef tanks and two freshwater tanks.
Veterans Memorial Park – Visit the beautiful wall, dedicated to the Veterans of the United States Armed Forces. It’s a somber place, and one that will make you want to just sit and reflect quietly. A moment of silence is always called for here.
Atlantic Beach – Atlantic Beach is another awesome place to visit, filled with activities for young and old.
Cheer your Favorite Team – Florida is home to many professional sports teams, including the Miami Dolphins, Florida Marlins, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (just to name three!).

I want to have everyone record a short video response for this post, and show us your skyline. You can live in a city, a small town, or even out in the country. Recently we have uploaded several travel tips videos, listing the best places to visit in your hometowns. The response to my request for more was so overwhelming, I cannot possibly create a video for each of them! I plan to add one of these a day here in the blog, so that I can share with you all of the places you should definitely check out if you ever have the chance to.

Today’s submission is from Daniel, and is filled with his favorite places to visit in Hong Kong. Daniel lives in Australia, but travels to Hong Kong frequently, and knows his way around quite well. Here are his recommendations:

Visit Victoria Peak – Named after the British monarch Queen Victoria, this hilly landmark is visited by every tourist to Hong Kong. A cable-pulled train takes visitors from Hong Kong Park to the peak. You can travel up the peak by bus too, but the cable car is more exciting. The views of the city from the peak are breathtaking.
Visit Ocean Park and Waterworld – Near the harbor southwest of Hong Kong island is a massive theme park and entertainment center. Amusement rides, a butterfly park, an aviary and marine shows are some of the highlights of Ocean Park. Particularly interesting is the Middle Kingdom walk-through exhibition, which features recreated street scenes and palaces from long ago. It’s a fun way to learn about China’s past. Waterworld has slides, a wave pool, man-made rapids and other child-friendly activities.
Visit Temple Street Night Markets – Temple Street is a street located in the suburb of Jordan in Kowloon, Hong Kong. It is well known for its night market and the busiest flea market at night in the territory. It is a thriving market for tech geeks as they sell lots of gizmo’s, gadgets and souvenirs. This is a must see for any geek in your community.
Visit the Wan Chai Computer Center – The Wan Chai Computer Center has two floors of practically nothing but shops selling computers, computer peripherals, tech supplies, digital consumer electronics & cell phones just to name a few. Plus its all legal! Most of the shops are not chain stores but their prices are sometimes better than the chain stores. Just like most all the other computer shopping centers in Hong Kong, it is crowded especially during off-work hours.
Check out Stanley Market – Stanley Market, located in the southern part of Hong Kong Island, is a dry market frequented by tourists. There are the usual oriental-looking gifts which you can find there. In addition to the market, there is a strip by the water with a row of bars and restaurants. Many of them have outdoors dining in the weekends when the street is closed off to motorized vehicles. When it comes to shopping for souvenirs, this market is a one stop shop for pretty much everything and its also really cheap.

Hong Kong has always intrigued me. The pictures I’ve seen are absolutely beautiful. Now, after reading about some of the places to visit, I wouldn’t mind checking them out myself.

People always say that Hawaii is best known and loved for the gorgeous scenery and weather. I have to disagree. My favorite thing about the Islands is the food. Bruce took me to a “hole-in-the-wall” (for lack of a better word) restaurant recently. It was hands-down the best food I’ve eaten in a very long time. I had to ask Bruce to share with us the best places to eat in Hawaii, and where to find the best food.

Bruce says that there are over 2500 restaurants just on Oahu alone! Many Hawaii natives eat out quite often… it’s just something they do. In fact, Bruce says that most people eat out more than they do at home. They enjoy the whole social aspect of dining out with friends and family, being able to relax and hang out with loved ones. That is very important to them, and something that I have witnessed on every trip I’ve made there. Bruce specifically mentions two Foodie Bloggers that you should check out: Melissa and Melanie.

Bruce and his team at Hawaii-Aloha are an amazing group of people. They work hard, and it shows. They actually truly care about the people they help, and go completely out of their way to make sure each and every customer is satisfied. They were the travel sponsors for my recent trip to Hawaii so that I could attend the [re]Think Hawaii conference, and I am definitely MORE than happy. My accommodations at the Outrigger Waikiki were fantastic. Every aspect of my trip was comfortable… and enjoyable.

It’s been awhile since I posted one of these travel tips videos. The response was so overwhelming that I couldn’t possibly record a video on all of the emails you sent! However, keep your eyes on my blog. I’ll be posting those there (one per day!) so that we can share your hometown with the World! This particular set of must-see places was sent in by David Beck.

Visit a Casino. – Everyone loves to try their luck at gambling, and Reno is a great place to do that. There are tons of casinos here, offering everything from slots to Blackjack.
Go Skiing. – There are more ski resorts within an hour’s drive than there are near any other US city.
Check out a Special Event or Festival. – Reno has an event going on almost every month. From Hot August Nights to Street Vibrations to Balloon Races, there is always something to check out.
Visit Lake Tahoe. – Only 45 minutes from Reno is the beautiful Lake Tahoe where you can hang out on a variety of beaches and participate in any number of water activities.
Visit Virginia City. – Just an hour from Reno is the mining town of Virginia City where you can visit old mines, ride the train or just shop the small stores. Visiting Virginia City is like taking a step back in time.
Visit a Museum. – There are more than 30 museums in Reno. You’ll find the Museum of Art, the Reno Children’s Discovery Museum, and even the National Automobile Museum here.
Take a Ride Down the River. – The Truckee River is absolutely gorgeous. You can grab a boat tour, or even take off on a rafting adventure!
Get Married! – If you just can’t wait to devote the rest of your life to someone, come down to Reno and get hitched without any waiting period. Marriage licensee are offered from 8 AM to midnight at the county courthouse.
Check out Circus Circus! – This isn’t just a hotel and casino. You’ll find an entire floor dedicated to arcade games! Circus Circus literally offers something for everyone – fun for all ages.
Visit the SkyDome. – Located in downtown Reno, the SkyDome has a small museum dedicated to space and science, as well as a domed theater that is always playing something interesting.

I think I have found a new home away from home at the Outrigger Hotel in Waikiki. I traveled down to the Islands last week to attend the [re]Think Hawaii conference. This place is so amazingly comfortable, with every amenity a Geek could hope for! The bed was comfy, the view was gorgeous, and there were giant frogs in the lobby!

Where would you visit if you could go anywhere in the world, and cost were not a factor? I haven’t done a travel tips video for a week or so, so I decided it was past time to bring a couple of them to you. This one is full of tips for places to visit in Egypt! Egypt is somewhere I’ve always wished I could travel to, and these ideas make me hope to get there one day even more. Thanks to Tarek for sending these to me!

Botanical Garden – Kitchener’s Island lies in the middle of the Nile at Aswan and is home to over thirty varieties of palm and tropical plants from around the world. The effect is lush and exotic and attracts colorful birds, water fowl, and egrets.
High Dam – Two dams straddle the Nile river at this point: the newer Aswan High Dam and the older Aswan Dam or Aswan Low Dam. The aim of this water project was to prevent the river’s flooding, generate electricity and provide water for agriculture. The old Aswan Dam is about 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) up-river from Cairo. The new Aswan High Dam is 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) upriver from the older dam.
Alsouk Street – Alsouk is the main street for market shopping in Aswan. At this popular street market you can find spices, food, souvenirs, baskets, colorful textiles, carvings and jewelry.
Philae Island and the Temple of Isis – The Temple of Isis is one of the greatest and grandest temples in Egypt. It occupies nearly a quarter of the island. It is, of course, the main temple on the island. There is an awesome sound and light show every evening. The extensive complex is dedicated to Isis, who is the Goddess of Motherhood and Fertility in ancient Egyptian religious beliefs.
Temple of Ramses II – Abu Simbel is the location of the most famous temple of Ramses. The most spectacular aspect of this temple is its setting: in the solid rock above the banks of the Nile River. The walls depict scenes which show Ramses’ greatness in battle. Ramses was proud of his victory at the Battle of Kadesh against the Nubian rebels, and depicted this pride on numerous monuments… including this temple.
Nubian museum – This museum contains about 3000 exhibits that represent the culture and civilization of the Nubian region… from prehistoric times to the present. The museum is built on steep cliff land, which enables it to create a full-scale design model of the Nile River and surrounding areas.
Nubian House Cafe – This laid-back Nubian café and restaurant is the place to be at sunset, with spectacular views over the First Cataract. Sit on traditional wooden benches on the huge shady terrace for a mint tea and sheesha (water pipe).
Take a Cruise along the Nile – If you visit Egypt, ytou don’t want to miss a trip down the Nile River. It’s inexpensive, and amazingly beautiful.
Aga Khan Tomb – This is the Mausoleum of the spiritual leader of the Ismailis, a Shi’ite sect (as were the Fatimid). The Ismailis are a diverse community speard all over Asia, Africa, Europe and North America. It is a very elegant pink granite structure of late 1950 origin, which also resembles the Fatimid tombs in Cairo.
Elephantine Island. – Elephantine Island is the largest of the Aswan area islands, and is one of the most ancient sites in Egypt, with artifacts dating to predynastic periods. This is probably due to its location at the first Cataract of the Nile, which provided a natural boundary between Egypt and Nubia. As an island, it was also easily defensible.

Doesn’t it sound like an amazing trip to go on? I definitely have to put visiting Egypt on my to-do-someday list!

This past weekend, my parents kidnapped me, and forced me to go on a short weekend vacation with them! I was forced at gun point! Well, maybe not gun point, but you get the drift. We bundled our things into the car, and set off to visit the Spruce Goose, which is the largest wooden airplane in the World.

Why did we do this? My parents thought it would be fun! And, of course, I don’t get to spend my time with my parents now that I live in Seattle. They really are awesome people, and I love them a bunch. But come ON! Family road trip?

Did you know Las Vegas isn’t the only cool place to visit in Nevada? I’m serious – there are other places you can go, other things you can see! David sent us a list of things to check out if you’re ever in Reno!

Visit a local casino! – I had to include this. People like to gamble, and they like to check out the casinos. I bet you didn’t realize there are just as many awesome casinos in Reno as there are in Vegas!
Go Skiing! – Reno has more local ski resorts than any other US city, all within an hour’s drive.
Check out a special event – There are special events being held almost daily in Reno, and you never know what you’ll find!

Much to everyone’s dismay, I uploaded quite a few videos of my experience in Hawaii. I’m not going to apologize – we only typically talk tech! Even when I wasn’t talking about tech, I was using tech to talk about the things I was doing! Yes, this video is about Hawaii. I received a care package from Troy in Honolulu the other day, and wanted to do a video to honor the occasion.

He sent a nice letter along with the care package. He was sad that he wasn’t able to meet me while I was in Hawaii. He asked if, instead, I could open his box in a video! That’s easy enough to do.

First, I received a container from Zippy’s, along with some chopsticks. The food there was amazing, which is why I ended up recording a video to tease all of you! Zippy’s ended up posting the video to their Facebook fan page, which was really cool! Sadly, the container is empty.

Next I pulled out a couple of containers of Macadamia nuts. I love them, so I’m looking forward to munching on them. There were even chocolate-covered Macadamia nuts!!

Last, but certainly not least, I was leid yet again. There was a Lei in the box, made from Macadamia nuts!! How cool is that? You can’t Lei yourself though. It has to be done by someone else, and then you have to receive a kiss. So, I’m not going to put the Lei on yet. I’m going to have to find someone who can do this for me.

I had a great time in Hawaii this last time, and I am absolutely looking forward to visiting again one day.

Ok, maybe I don’t know what you did last summer, or even this summer. Now that we’re closing in on back-to-school and Fall, it’s time to start thinking of warmer clothes and holidays already. Yes – some people are already doing their holiday shopping. Stores are putting out winter coats. Before you know it, there will be Halloween decorations and costumes on the shelves.

So… what have you done this summer? Did you even go outside at all? Even the Great Indoorsman headed out a few times, enjoying the sunshine and scenery. Why not share with all of us what you’ve been up to. Did you travel anywhere cool? Did you visit some local outdoor attractions? Surely there is something!!

When you do spend time at home and indoors, hopefully you are spending at least part of that time reading what everyone else has been up to in our community.

10 Things to Do in Tokyo, Japan

Have you ever visited Japan… or anywhere seriously cool like that? What were some of the best things you were able to see and do while there? Shogo is a member of our live community who happens to live in Tokyo. He sent in his list of top ten places to visit should you ever find yourself in the area.

Go to Akihabara – It is the most famous tech town in Japan, even known as Akihabara Electric Town. Funny thing is, the train station in Akihabara actually has a exit to enter the main area that has electronics in Akihabara. Go at night, I personally think it has one of the best night scenes in Tokyo.
Tokyo Animation Center in Akihabara – This is pretty much the place you have to go, if you go to Akihabara. It has a lot of information, demos, showings and events about animation (called anime as many of you may know in Japan) and gaming.
Go shopping in Akihabara – Again, Akihabara is very famous for the vast amounts of electronics. Just go to the main street, Chuo-dori (Pronounciation : Chūō-dōri) and go in any direction, any street.
Go to Chuo-dori on a Sunday in Akihabara – Cosplayers galore.
Japan? Sushi. – You have to eat Sushi, but not at those conveyor belt shops. You have to go to a real restaurant, and experience real Sushi. Just watch how much you eat, it’s expensive. I recommend trying Ginza Hokake in Ginza. (A course is 10,000 yen which is about 100 usd.)
Check out the Sony Building in Ginza – You can even see cutting edge products that aren’t available for purchase yet.
Tokyo Tower – Getting less geeky, you might want to go to the Tokyo Tower, much like the Eiffel Tower in Paris. There is a glass floor on one of the floors, and you can look straight down through it, quite exhillirating if you have a fear of heights.
Mitsubishi Minatomirai Industrial Museum – Although it is not exactly in Tokyo, it is very near. It is very interesting, has exhibits on space, ocean, transportation and more.
Tokyo Disney Land or Disney Sea – Just like any Disney Land but hey, its fun!
Asakusa Shrine – Just plain beautiful, if you want to see the beauty of classic old Japanese architecture, you have to go here. Make sure you bring a camera, you would want to take a picture every step you take.

I took this short clip while riding in a car during my recent trip to Hawaii. The day was a little overcast and even kind of foggy. However, it was still just absolutely beautiful there – both the scenery and the weather itself. Living in Seattle, I’m used to clouds and rain… and even prefer them to the sunshine!
