Unboxing videos – we’ve all seen them, but you’ve never seen an unboxing video quite like this. This is bigger than the iPhone 4 unboxing. It’s more moving than unboxing the MacBook Air. This unboxing video could be the last unboxing you ever watch. And as if one unboxing wasn’t enough, you get 2 for the price of 1 in this extended look inside the world of unboxing videos.

I’ve been waiting for some amount of time for this particular product. I can’t even remember back to when I began the countdown. True to form, I had my unboxing juice by my side. I was happy to note that the box is of perfect shape and has no obvious damage on any side.

I like that the barcodes on this beautiful white box are very tightly packed. I wouldn’t be too thrown off by this. Normally, they’re written in a vertical orientation. This set is nothing short of that. I do see, however, that the stamp on the label is slightly malformed. I don’t know if that means this box has been damaged in some unknown capacity. I guess we shall find out any moment now.

Unlike real men, I use scissors to cut open my boxes. Make sure you never run with them in your hand. You can injure – or seriously kill – yourself. This is the reason why many unboxing videos are cut in half. The person recording just doesn’t listen to his mother and runs around the house with the scissors in his hand at the end.

This particular cardboard happens to be of the corrugated variety. This makes my box nice and sturdy yet still easy to cut through with my scissors. This is my favorite type of cardboard out there. It’s not too thick and not too thin, and it has ridges!

Much like mini-pads, this box has wings. I don’t know if this is something you are looking for, but I certainly appreciate it. If you’re looking for the wings, this type of box will work perfectly. It will make you doubly happy! It has a bonus set of wings hidden inside!!

Inside, you’ll see we have a very nice and uniform tan color. This is something I found rather nice about this box. The brown is a very nice contrast against the white on the outside and on the sides themselves. It’s perfect to carry around after Labor Day when ladies aren’t supposed to be seen in white.

The craftsmanship that went into this box is just fantastic. There are some type of raised letters or numbers imprinted on the bottom. It’s not Braille, but it’s kind of cool to pretend that it is!

This is totally the best unboxing I’ve ever done. I don’t think this box could get any better. I haven’t gotten any paper cuts. This speaks to how well the box was made. There’s no word on what the next version of this box will be like, but I’ll be sure to let you know as soon as I have my hands on one.

Don’t forget – this box is actually something you can recycle.

This is likely the last unboxing video I will ever record. They simply aren’t interesting, yo. If you’re someone who goes around watching this type of video, then STOP IT!

You are welcome.

The iPad 2 was released in stores today and I was definitely one of those people who chose to stand in line to get one. Did that really surprise you? A friend of mine was holding my place in the line here in my local area. There weren’t many people in line when I headed over. I chose not to go to an actual Apple store so that I could hopefully avoid having to deal with larger crowds.

I am selling both of my old iPads and am actually getting a pretty good price for them. Who says that they won’t hold resale value?! The amount I’m getting for the two older models is enough to cover the new iPad, which will be the WiFi 3G version once again – mainly for the GPS option. I will also be getting one of the SmartCovers – likely a black one. My iPad will be black, as well. I personally just don’t like white devices.

I don’t know how many of you out there are getting iPads, but two of my friends who are anti-Apple normally are both getting one. You all know one of these people fairly well. I won’t disclose his name at this point in time. Suffice to say, you will be shocked when you figure it out. It’s someone you would never have expected to own an iPad.

After recording the unboxing video, I plan to record one giving my initial impressions of the new device as well as giving a comparison of the two iPad iterations. Additionally, I want to attempt to record a video showing the differences between the iPhone 4 camera and the one built in to the iPad 2 – which admittedly isn’t that great.

I don’t think the quality of the camera really matters all that much in the grand scheme of things. How many times have you complained about the low quality of a webcam on your notebook or laptop? Has that stopped you from wanting, buying and using the device? Of course it hasn’t, so why should it stop you from buying and using an iPad? The camera isn’t what the device was created for – it’s simply an added bonus.

It’s nice to see that so many of you plan to pick up the original version of the iPad now that the prices have been dropped. Even though it’s the first generation, it’s still a fantastic device that holds its own against competitors in the marketplace.

The T-Mobile myTouch 4G is one of three phones with 4G capability available from T-Mobile. In this video, Lockergnome’s Jake Ludington does an unboxing of the myTouch 4G, walking through the contents of the box and some of the core features of this Android phone. One unique feature of the myTouch 4G packaging is the ability to use the included zipper case as a protective case for other things you might want to carry in a purse or backpack.

Jake would like T-Mobile to stop showing that video as soon as you begin to use your phone for the first time. Seriously. No one needs to see that.

Take note that once you select your theme, you then have the options to set up your social networks. This is definitely the way to do things: don’t make us have to find apps to connect where we want to be. Don’t put it off any longer than you have to. Get us hooked up and sending out information immediately. We cannot be away from Twitter and Facebook more than a few moments, you know! (And we know YOU can’t, either!)

Setup and configuration is fairly simple, and won’t require you to read the included user guides.

The Roku HD set top box works with virtually any TV, offering HDMI for HDTV or composite connections for standard def televisions. The Roku HD supports 720p video and connects to the Internet via WiFi.

Kelly Clay does an unboxing of the Roku HD here, showing you what’s inside the box. As an Apple TV alternative, the Roku HD costs less and works with many content providers not compatible with Apple TV

Much like with Apple, the Roku HD packaging is very minimal. There aren’t a lot of extra things rattling around in the box. You get what you need in as small of a box as can be used. No muss – no fuss.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good haul! This happens to be my favorite holiday, even when I happen to be celebrating it alone. I’m very glad to know you’re here with me (even virtually, in homes of your own).

I bought myself a very cool Boba Fett hoodie this year. I’ve been wanting one forever, so I decided to go ahead and splurge!

I received several really cool gifts from various friends, including some great new LEGO and Star Wars stuff! Thank you to all of you.

I also bought myself a Panasonic DMP-B500 Portable DVD Player. Gosh, how did I ever figure out what it was I really wanted?

YouTube sent a gift to some of the producers, as well. We were asked to go to B&H Photo and Video and choose a few things we knew we could need/use. I chose wisely, knowing I will be broadcasting live soon from CES 2011. I’ll be in the Grand Lobby, and uploading all of the resulting videos to my YouTube account. Thanks so much to the folks at YouTube for these goodies.

ThinkGeek also sent me a nice care package. It was sitting downstairs for at least a week, and I’ve been dying to open it. They sent me the new Bluetooth Keyboard and iPad Case that I’ve had my eyes on for a while now. I also recieved the USB Classic Atari Joystick, the Star Wars Dark Side Coffee, an Otamatone, a Not Here to Make Friends shirt (which I WILL wear in public frequently!), the FML shirt (which again – I WILL wear often!!) and a few other assorted goodies.

What’d you get for Christmas this year?

Angelo is one of our Lockergnome bloggers, writing about all things Android. He recently purchased a 13″ MacBook Air and recorded the unboxing for us. The video is short, sweet and to the point – and Angelo is as excited as a kid on Christmas morning.

The new MacBook Air is likely the thinnest – and lightest – notebook on the market. It’s sleek design has people all over the world drooling… including those who aren’t normally OS X users.

The machine wakes from sleep in an instant and is build around Flash storage. This keeps your device light – almost like air. The battery is built to last – and last – and last. It boasts a high-resolution, pixel-perfect display. I have to admit, the display IS gorgeous.

The 13″ MacBook Air comes standard with a 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of memory and NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics. You can choose from either 128GB or 256GB of Flash storage.

I love the enthusiasm that Angelo has. What is the last item you bought or received that made you this excited?

Yes, I had it sitting there on my desk for a few days. Had to let the thing ripen, ya know? Anyway, this morning, in front of the live virtual audience (were you there?), I opened ‘er for the first time and copped a feel.

Initial impressions? Generally good, although I’m a bit disappointed there’s no LED flash and no ability to view actual battery usage percentage… but it shoots damn nice video. I will likely give this new iPod away at some point, as I have with older models. Stay tuned for details on that in the near future.

I’ve had iPod-like capabilities with my iPhone 4. This model interested me for one specific reason – the cameras. I’m often out and about, and need to record or capture something. If I want to record something that is on my iPhone, I can’t use the camera that is on the iPhone! The iPod touch will work perfectly for this, don’t you think?

I have to say that the little Finger Tips booklet that comes with my Apple products is cool as hell. The name is great and the tips inside are usually great, as well.

It was easy to tell that this is the 64GB model. It weighs approximately 32GB more than the 32GB model, and about 48GB more than the 16GB model. Thankfully, there’s a math app floating around in iTunes somewhere. It took a lot of fingers and toes to figure that out.

The first thing I noticed when taking the new iPod touch out of its box for the first time is how slim this little baby is. I was actually surprised by the thinness, even though I had read the specs for myself. Knowing the thickness of a new gadget doesn’t really give you a feel for what it’s like in the hand… until it’s IN your hand!

I will definitely need a good case for this, and a screen protector. Fingerprints drive me completely batshit! I also like to have good protection, so let me know what cases you recommend for this newest iteration of the iPod touch.

The nice thing about already having an iPhone and more than 800 apps is that I can sync everything right to this new iPod touch. As soon as I sync it with my iTunes account, all of my apps and data will be automagically placed onto the device.

My next question for you is: what should I do now with the iPod? Is there something I’m missing? Is there more to it than this?

When I received my iPhone 4, I decided to give my 3GS model to my assistant and Community Manager Kat. She works extremely hard, and is always willing to drop whatever she’s doing to take on something else whenever I need her to. She’s fantastic at handling the community issues that crop up, and it seems as though everyone loves her. I was lucky as hell to find her three years ago on accident, and I don’t know what I’d do without her! Here you’ll find her attempt at an unboxing video. GO EASY on her, y’all. This is the first time she’s done something like this. She was extremely nervous, so she asked her daughter Ashley to join her in the video.

As you can see, I threw in some extra goodies! Kat was quite shocked to find everything that was in the box. She tells me her favorite is the gorgeous CalypsoCrystal iPhone Dock. These are solid lead crystal, and each are hand-made. They truly are beautiful, and the video doesn’t do it justice.

I included the Richard|Solo external battery so that she never runs out of juice. There’s a car charging kit as well as a wall-charging plug.

Next in the box was the ZeroChroma iPhone Theater Stand with Sound Scoop. I thought this would be a nice addition to her accessory collection. You never know when she may want to watch movies or listen to music… that sound scoop REALLY works well!

I also included the ThinkGeek AirVolt Wireless Charger (click here for ThinkGeek Coupons). Kat is a big-time fan of anything from ThinkGeek (hint! hint!). I know that these wireless chargers are a lifesaver at times, so I wanted to make sure she had one.

Kat indicated she has already bought a “girly” looking iPhone case. Lord help me… I’m not sure my heart could take seeing it when she’s here next month for Gnomedex! However, I did send my case along.

Since she’s new to the iPhone and smartphones in general, Kat is very excited to start trying out apps. Anyone who wishes to send her a free code to test something out (and then possibly talk about it here on my blog), feel free to Email her directly.

Kat – thank you for everything that you do. No one really has a clue how hard you work, or the amount of hours you put in every week. Hell, I’m not sure even I know how much of yourself you give every day. Just know that the entire community appreciates it, and we’re better off for having you running the show behind the scenes.

When I first opened the box for my iPhone 4, you can see how well they packed it. There’s no extra material. It was strapped in tight with a thin strip of cellophane. The box was white, but the phone is black. I ordered the 32GB model.

Yes, I used a pair of scissors to cut the tape on the iPhone box. No, I haven’t learned my lesson about using sharp objects.

The phone itself was also covered in a thin layer of cellophane to keep it nice and safe. It’s very obvious as soon as you pick it up how much smaller and lighter it is. True to form, there’s a very clean experience on the inside of the box. I wish other hardware manufacturers would “get” this. I didn’t have to fumble around with books and manuals and extra packing materials. I just opened the box and removed the phone.

I am not sure why so many people watch unboxing videos. They’re pretty boring, admittedly. But there you have it, anyway.

Yes, we had quite a few of you tune in for the live delivery and unboxing of Apple’s first iPad product. Was it worth the wait? Only time will tell. There wasn’t much to the box, really – and setup was certainly a breeze. I went on to demonstrate quite a few features after unwrapping my package. *ahem*

The one that I unboxed in this video is the Wi-Fi version, of course, since it’s the only one available right now. I do have the 3G version on order already, so am likely to give THIS one away at some point in the future. Stay tuned for details on that. Even if you don’t think you want an iPad… would you really turn it down if it’s free?

To all of you who claim that the iPad is “nothing more than an iPod Touch with a bigger screen” I say: THAT IS THE POINT. Dang. Seriously, folks…

It is true that you can sync an iPhone and an iPad both to the same computer and install the same apps. However, the problem is that I have 557 apps sitting on my iPhone right now. I’m going to have to go through and de-select the ones I don’t want on my iPad.

Note: If you’re an iPad app developer (or know of one), I’m interested in reviewing your app.

I know that watching me sync the iPad for the first time may not have been an exciting experience for all of you. I also know that the true beauty of the screen didn’t translate too well in the video. However, trust me when I say this is a really nice screen.

I was shocked at how fast thing load on my iPad. I wasn’t as happy trying to type something in with the iPad on Portrait mode. My hands are just too big. I think I’ll have to use Landscape mode all the time. It’s pretty cool to see how smoothly the transformation is when switching between the two modes. You have to hold the device pretty steady, though. It seems to be almost too sensitive, and will change modes if you move the machine just a tad too much in any direction.

Did you get an iPad yesterday? If so, what apps did you get? I’m curious to know, because discovering new things is part of the fun. Let’s hear your first thoughts. Leave us a follow-up comment.

I started the countdown 24 hours ahead of time for my iPad unboxing. UPS was kind enough to make a mistake, and delivered it early! I set it out on my desk, and spent the day teasing everyone about the fact that I was going to get to open it early. I nearly burst at the seams trying to wait, trust me. I was dying to get my hands on my new iPad on this specific date.

Now that you’re mad at me because this wasn’t a real unboxing, why not join us on the live stream on Saturday? The real iPad will be arriving, and I WILL be unboxing it live.

Happy April Fool’s Day!

I can’t believe my local Apple Store had them in stock and was selling them tonight! I took advantage of this OBVIOUS oversight and decided to buy one on the spot.

This is the $499 (16GB) model. As you can see, it runs just fine. Too bad it doesn’t support Adobe Flash.

It’s more than just an oversized iPod Touch, as you can see. It sports a speedy 1Ghz processor, support for wireless “N” networking, a backlit LED screen, will allow you to connect it to an external keyboard, substantially longer battery life, and… a screen that’s perfect for sharing with others.

When was the last time you played with LEGO? What did you build, and did you keep your creation? I bought myself a LEGO Death Star kit for my birthday last year. I never have put it together, because I knew it was a massive undertaking. However, I had friends over for my birthday this year to help me with the build! I know I’m not the only one – do you still build with LEGO?

When I got up this morning, there were over 700 people watching my empty desk! They were waiting with baited breath for me to start unboxing! You might remember when I built the LEGO Star Destroyer that my friend Datalore bought me last year. Sadly, this unboxing isn’t going to be very exciting. There are just instructions and bags of little LEGO parts in there. The excitement will come with the actual building.

There are 3800 pieces in this kit! Holy cow that’s a lot of LEGO Bricks!! I know my friend Mona is excited over the little Chewie figurine, and can’t wait to see it. The manual is huge – it has tons of pictures and pages. I think it’s as tall as me!

Inside of the main box, there were a few smaller boxes. Inside of those boxes are tons of little baggies full of little LEGO bricks! Holy cow the baggies aren’t numbered. I know right now it’s going to take a long time to get this thing built. The Star Destroyer had numbers on the bags, which made it MUCH easier! Argh!

What do you think? How long do you think it will take us to get this thing built?

A couple of years ago I sat at my desk claiming I’d never buy an iPhone on the first day. I thought my then-current phone was fine, and did everything I wanted it to. Not long after that, I recanted and started to use an iPhone. I’ve never looked back, and won’t GO back. My iPhones have done so much more than I could have ever asked for or expected from a phone, which is why I’m so excited about my new iPhone 3GS!!

I saved the unboxing and unwrapping of my new iPhone 3GS to do on this video. I know how much you guys enjoy these! I feel that AT&T is total fail with the way they’re handling these things, and the activations. Apparently, many are taking up to two days! Shame on them.

On a side note… I normally shave my face for no one. However, I felt the need to shower and shave prior to unboxing this. I shaved for my phone! What is the world coming to?

The box included the phone, of course, the instructions (Fingertips), and the cords. The box itself is easy to tell it’s for the 3GS model, since you see the icons for things like the Compass which are now included on the new model.

It looks exactly the same as my iPhone 3G. I connected my Richard|Solo 1800 in order to help extend my battery life. I couldn’t live without this awesome little thing. It has saved me on more than one occasion, when my iPhone 3G would have otherwise been dead in the water.

It’s definitely faster, it boots up a heck of a lot quicker than my 3G did/does. I had to connect to iTunes right away, of course. Had to accept Terms and Conditions, which is pretty standard. I then had to wait for them to process my request. They should play some music, daggone it.

And, of course, I received a notice (typical of AT&T)… “your activation will take additional time to complete. Due to high volume of current activations, it will take up to 48 hours to completely your request”. Thank you for a big bucket of epic FAIL, AT&T.

I had to figure out what to name this phone. My last one was boring, and simply named “iPhone”. So I asked the chat – and my dogs – what to call this one. I decided on “Gnome”, since I’m the Lockergnome!

I had to sync my information with the new device, so I know that’ll take awhile. I had 300 Apps to move over, so yeah… I’m addicted to them. I know it!

So anyways, there’s my unboxing and attempt to activate with my new iPhone 3GS. Keep your eyes peeled for more videos in the near future!
