Do you understand the words I’m speaking right now? If you don’t understand the English language, it will be difficult for you. There are a lot of languages here on Earth. What if you want to communicate with someone who doesn’t speak your language well? You want to chat with them in “real-time”, and you don’t want to have to use some translator that makes you copy and paste by the sentence or paragraph. What can you do?

Enter BabelWith.Me. Communicate with anyone, anywhere in up to 45 languages. BabelWith.me is a simple, free group chat that automatically translates your conversation as you type. Simply set up a chat and invite others using your unique URL. Choose the language you are speaking (and others choose theirs). The service will automatically translate everything others say in their own language into YOUR language!

BabelWith.me is a web-based tool, so you won’t need to install any software to use it. Each conversation can have up to 45 languages at once! Language is no longer a barrier! It’s easy to talk with anyone in the world, whether they march to your drum or not.

If you know of other excellent (and free!) services, let me know. I’d love to check them out.

What am I saying? Translate This!

I asked people to translate this video:

Cesardom thinks he figured it out:

Who is Keyser Soze? He is supposed to be Turkish. Some say his father was German. Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him or knew anybody that ever worked directly for him, but to hear Kobayashi tell it, anybody could have worked for Soze. You never knew. That was his power. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.

whallify gave ‘er a go:

First of all, I’d like to thank you for proving that our economy is not in a downturn. If people can randomly pay good money for an online pay-to-speak-in-tongues market, we are still good. However, while I’m on the topic, I’d like to vent a little at all you losers out there who don’t like Vista. You haven’t even tried it! You make me weep for our children. Open your eyes. YOUR EYES! ON YOUR HEAD! OPEN THEM! And try out Desktop Search. It is can haz awesommness.

jusso11 might be on the right track:

That day I installed windows vista ruined my entire experience of Microsoft. I hated it. The friggin thing crashed my computer! But then I switched to OS X and it was great, things like iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie, Keynote, Pages, Numbers, Photobooth, Safari, Camino, and EVERYTHING, so good, better than Windows. Much, much better than Windows.

LisaLeeLa believe she knows all:

There’s too much caffiene in my coffee, I feel jittery, and I need to find alternatives to wake me up and jump start my day! Doesnt help that Wicket and Pixie peed all over my clean laundry, and Ponzi yelled at me for leaving clothes out in harms way rather than putting them in the closet and drawers where they belong!

Perhaps the best translation came from lonelygirll5:

I can’t find any coupons on their own site, but they do sell their products for about $20 less on Amazon.com and you also get free shipping. Rosetta Stone charges at least $9.95 for shipping through their own site, so this is a pretty good deal… Are you ready to learn a new language, too?

French to English

I speak French! Kinda. Here’s the original article, and the Google translation:

“If you like your software better than Windows, keep XP at least a year more, advises Chris Pirillo, on the site Windows Fanatics, by giving a long list of “tricks for the difficult passage of XP to Vista.

“Your software will not go. Consider that if something goes under XP, there is a good luck that that does not function in the same way under Vista, because of new protections of safety, explains Mr. Pirillo.

My buddy Chris Null gets Frenched, too:

“Microsoft would like that everyone adopts Vista immediately, but that would be a nightmare because the majority of the PC are not capable to make turn Vista, especially its most sophisticated functions, specifies Christopher Null, technical adviser at Yahoo! , quoted by Orlando Sentinel.

I wonder if Victor’s errors have also been translated:

“Look at Vista, but wait later to buy it, summarizes Victor Godinez, of Dallas Morning News, which tells its problems of installation: “my printer sends from now on every 10 minutes to me an error message, many old programs are not compatible Vista, tells it.

And humor must be the international language, because I totally busted a gut after reading the last paragraph:

According to the American press, only some rare fans were at midnight in front of the CompUSA store of especially open New York for the launching of Vista, primarily to benefit from reduction on printers rather than to buy Vista.

A Tablet PC Wedding

A few weeks ago, Ponzi suggested that we could read our marriage vows from our respective laptops during the ceremony. I was amazed that she would suggest such a thing, but it just goes to show you that she really understands me (and respects my unhealthy fascination with technology). We have a couple of relatively unsexy Thinkpad’s, and they’re not quite lightweight.

I asked a few Tablet PC enthusiasts for suggestions, having never owned a Tablet PC – or never really needing to own one. James Kendrick pointed me in the direction of TabletKiosk. A UMPC would certainly fit the bill, and two eo UMPC v7110 256/40 (white) units were soon en route to our new home address – and Ponzi was none the wiser. Feel free to watch James’s review of the hardware if you wanna know more about it.

The Ultra-Mobile PCs arrived on Thursday, and I quickly unboxed them as if it was early Christmas morning. During the wedding rehearsal, I surprised Ponzi and the wedding party by unveiling them. Ponzi joked: “Is this my wedding present!?” We had mutually agreed to skip the spousal gifts, so I figured a twin set of UMPCs was a decent compromise.

Per my dad’s suggestion, I printed a copy of our vows (and taped them to the back of each computer) – just in case something went haywire. I thought I had covered all my bases – coping the vows to each UMPC, charging the battery, shutting down all unnecessary services, etc. What I didn’t do, however, is tweak the power management settings.

The two boys (Patrick Scoble and Lane Lawley) approached the chupa and I read my vows first. Of course, I can’t wait to get everybody an audio/video copy of this part of our ceremony – a photo simply doesn’t give you the full story. Immediately after I finished, Ponzi read her vows – and as she was just about to finish, the UMPC suspended itself! Ponzi said that Windows crashed, the audience exploded in laughter, and I quickly flipped her tablet around so that she could refer to the printed copy.

It was fun to do, and I think our friends and family got a kick out of it, too. Several people wanted to know more about the TabletKiosk systems – for good reason. They’re sexy, compact, and perfect for this kind of event.

As much as it pains me to say it, one of our wedding tablets was (likely) stolen from the venue later that night. We established a crime timeframe, and security tapes were analyzed. Ponzi and I have been invited back to Harbor Club Bellevue to review the potentially incriminating footage – as the suspects are not employees. As you can imagine, I’m completely unnerved. I really, really don’t want to see who did it – and I’d ask that if you know anything about this situation, you come forward sooner rather than later.
