It’s been awhile since I posted one of these travel tips videos. The response was so overwhelming that I couldn’t possibly record a video on all of the emails you sent! However, keep your eyes on my blog. I’ll be posting those there (one per day!) so that we can share your hometown with the World! This particular set of must-see places was sent in by David Beck.

• Visit a Casino. – Everyone loves to try their luck at gambling, and Reno is a great place to do that. There are tons of casinos here, offering everything from slots to Blackjack.
• Go Skiing. – There are more ski resorts within an hour’s drive than there are near any other US city.
• Check out a Special Event or Festival. – Reno has an event going on almost every month. From Hot August Nights to Street Vibrations to Balloon Races, there is always something to check out.
• Visit Lake Tahoe. – Only 45 minutes from Reno is the beautiful Lake Tahoe where you can hang out on a variety of beaches and participate in any number of water activities.
• Visit Virginia City. – Just an hour from Reno is the mining town of Virginia City where you can visit old mines, ride the train or just shop the small stores. Visiting Virginia City is like taking a step back in time.
• Visit a Museum. – There are more than 30 museums in Reno. You’ll find the Museum of Art, the Reno Children’s Discovery Museum, and even the National Automobile Museum here.
• Take a Ride Down the River. – The Truckee River is absolutely gorgeous. You can grab a boat tour, or even take off on a rafting adventure!
• Get Married! – If you just can’t wait to devote the rest of your life to someone, come down to Reno and get hitched without any waiting period. Marriage licensee are offered from 8 AM to midnight at the county courthouse.
• Check out Circus Circus! – This isn’t just a hotel and casino. You’ll find an entire floor dedicated to arcade games! Circus Circus literally offers something for everyone – fun for all ages.
• Visit the SkyDome. – Located in downtown Reno, the SkyDome has a small museum dedicated to space and science, as well as a domed theater that is always playing something interesting.

10 Things to Do in Reno, Nevada

If you’ve ever planned to visit Calgary, Alberta Canada, you likely wondered what there may be to see and do. Why not get ideas from a local, instead of just a standard web search of “attractions”? Austin Q emailed me from the heart of Calgary, a place he loves to call home. He came up with his list of top 10 recommended places to visit in Calgary after reading my blog post of places to visit in Seattle. Following are Austin’s recommendations:

• Canada Olympic Park – This is where the 1988 winter Olympics were held. There are many things to see and do here, and a lot of activities you can take part in if you choose. They offer a variety of lessons, such as Skiing and Mountain Biking.
• Calgary Stampede – This is heralded as “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth”. The Calgary Stampede is a volunteer-supported, not-for-profit community organization that preserves and promotes western heritage and values. The Stampede hosts the world-renowned 10-day Stampede, year-round facilities, western events and several youth and agriculture programs.
• Banff National Park – While this park isn’t located in Calgary, it is nearby. Here you can explore the Rockies, and take in the breathtaking scenery. There are 2564 sq miles of valleys, mountains, glaciers, forests, meadows and rivers, making it one of the world’s premier destination spots.
• Calgary Zoo – The Calgary Zoo is quite large, and boasts a large variety of exhibits. You’ll find all the traditional zoo animals here, along with sections dedicated to the animals of far-away places such as Africa and Australia. There’s even a section for Prehistoric animals!
• Calgary Tower – While this may not be the largest tower in Calgary, it is still the Calgary Tower. It is the City of Calgary’s most famous and identifiable physical landmark. Travel up to the Observation Deck and step out onto the glass floor! You’ll be standing 525 feet above the ground in the heart of Calgary. You can look straight down and directly out in front of you into the heart of the city.
• Aero Space Museum – Learn the stories of the trailblazers who dreamt of flight. Discover the pioneers who adapted aircraft for trade and recreation. Be inspired by the heroes who fought for Canada from the skies or, by the adventurers who set their sights to outer space.
• Calgary Flames – Join the C of Red, watching an NHL game. Calgary is one of the most hocky-driven cities in the World. A word of caution – never try to get between a local and their view of the game!
• Calgary Oval – All ice skating events during the 1988 Olympics were held here, in the first covered speed skating oval in North America. You can ice skate, play hockey and even take lessons here.
• Youthlink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre – This is a very cool place that allows kids and teens a look into what being a policeman (or woman) is all about. They can learn about forensics, crime fighting, and more.
• Tour the Rocky Mountains – I didn’t include a specific link, as there are many different guided tours available. The scenery in and around the mountains is just incredible, and something you won’t want to miss.

Top 10 Things to Do in Calgary, Alberta, Canada

It was a clear day in Seattle today, which is normal for the late summer months. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky when I shot this photo with my iPhone 3GS. It’s absolutely beautiful here in Hawaii. The weather is great. The scenery is amazing. However, I just don’t think I could live here. Let me tell you why…

• It’s too touristy. I’m sure there are probably places on the islands that aren’t as touristy. However, much of Hawaii’s economy is supported by tourism. I can’t imagine having to put up with that year-round.
• I’m not really a water lover. I’m not a sporty kind of guy. Many people are parasailing, kayaking, mountain biking… I just don’t get it.
• It’s an island here in the middle of the Ocean. There’s virtually no escape route. That just freaks me out.
• There are limited broadband options here. Being a Geek who makes my living online… I sincerely have to have good Internet connections. That’s just not going to happen in Hawaii.
• I really don’t like hot weather. I love the weather in Seattle, honestly! I’m not a fan of sun and beaches and heat. It’s just not for me.

I’m actually hoping someone will reply to this video with reasons they WOULD remove to Hawaii. Or, you can list reasons you agree with me, and wouldn’t want to live here. This is a wonderful place to visit, but for me… it’s just not a place to live.
