If you have ever watched the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special on television, you know that dinner for the gang means something entirely different than it does to the rest of us. The adorable little folks have a feast based around popcorn. This is totally a tradition I could get used to… and have!

Thanksgiving Recipes

You may have stuffed yourself with turkey and stuffing, but Imei and I enjoyed a less traditional Thanksgiving dinner. It was easy, fun, tasty, and completely stress-free – just like every Thanksgiving should be.

What you see pictured here is: seaweed salad, fried tofu cubes (heated with toasted sesame oil), white rice, and homemade poke – made with minced white onion, green onion, toasted sesame seed oil, futakake, oyster sauce, garlic, salt, low sodium soy sauce, chili flakes, and fresh sashimi-grade tuna! And yes, I splashed some “Rooster Sauce” on the border of my plate to make it pop.

Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and I can’t help but reflect on what I’m thankful for. It’s easy for me… I’m most grateful for all of you – the community. Wicket is happy, because I have a plate of food on my desk. I spent minutes slaving away in my kitchen to make what I feel is the perfect Thanksgiving feast: toast, pretzels, jelly beans and popcorn! Yes, I’m eating like Charlie Brown. And speaking of Charlie Brown and Thanksgiving… the popular cartoon is available free online through Fancast!! Even if you don’t own the DVD like I do, you can still watch from the comfort of your computer chair as you nom your turkey day goodies!

Are You Ready for the Holidays?

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and Christmas is but a few weeks away? I was aghast yesterday when I walked into a store that was playing Christmas carols… until I realized what the date was. Holy crap where did the year go? I haven’t even started to think about holiday shopping yet, never mind actually DOING any shopping.

After I had my little panic attack, I sat down to check out what was going on around out community. Low and behold… people are talking about the upcoming festivities. They’re figuring out what to cook with their turkeys, and what the hottest new gifts are for this year. Geez I’m way behind, aren’t I?

I was happy as hell to see that the holidays aren’t the only thing that people are chattering about. Thankfully, I found many interesting and informative blogs and threads on a huge variety of topics to keep me busy… and to get my mind back OFF of the holiday season. I’m just not ready quite yet!

Happy Thanksgiving – Geek Style

It’s officially Thanksgiving here in the US. As I’m writing this, the time is just after 1am. Many people on the East coast are about to roll out of bed, and prepare the turkey for baking. Some of us are still hard at work though, posting things across the Internet!

From all of us in the Lockergnome family, I hope you and yours have a safe and happy Thanksgiving Day. Please remember to take a moment (even if you are outside the US!) to reflect on all of the blessings in your life. Even though life may be hard at times, there are always things to be grateful for.

Whether you celebrate the actual “Thanksgiving” holiday or not where you live, we all have things we are thankful for. I’d like to share with you the top 5 things I am grateful for.

My family. This includes my immediate, and my extended family. Ponzi, of course, is number one on my list. I love my dogs, Pixie and Wicket, as well. Yes… my dogs are my family. I’m their adopted Daddy!
All of you! I’m thankful for all of you… the viewers, the subscribers, the sponsors. All of you allow me to do what I love to do.
My lifestyle/job/career I’m definitely thankful that I get to do something I love every day. Helping people, creating content… those are things I love, and am grateful to be able to do on a daily basis.
My Internet connection Yes, I might complain about it at times. But, I am very thankful to be able to have a connection at all. I can’t imagine my life without it. I know there are people out there who cannot afford the Internet, or a computer. I know there are places in the world that don’t even have the possibility of the Internet. It makes me take mine less for granted.
Peet’s Coffee Not just any coffee… Peet’s Coffee. I live on this stuff. Do do you you think think I I drink drink too too much much caffeine caffeine??

If I drink anything, it’s usually either soda water or coffee (but seldom simultaneously). I decided to exceed my palate’s comfort level and venture into the world of Jones Soda this evening. Mind you, I didn’t flip for their typical cola flavors – that wouldn’t be very interesting, would it?

Turkey and Gravy, Sweet Potato, Dinner Roll, Pea, and Antacid – all sodas in the Jones Soda Holiday 2006 pack. I’m still not sure what drove me to bring such an array of carbonated dissidents home with me, but the results were… well, you’ll just have to watch the video.

Last year, someone told me that Jones Soda had released a liquid “Thanksgiving meal” of sorts. It’s a novelty food item that I knew I’d have to drink at some point. I always appreciate when a “normal” flavor is blended with a “normal” food to create a potential culinary abomination. Like wasabi ice cream, for instance – many foods are worth trying once. Sometimes twice!

This afternoon, I was given an opportunity to try the 2006 Holiday Pack. A local grocery store had ‘em in stock, although the items had been officially removed from shelves yesterday. I begged and pleaded with the store manager to kindly fetch me a case. He obliged, and the rest (as they say) is history. I decided to record my reactions on video – for posterity.
