Can you believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and Christmas is but a few weeks away? I was aghast yesterday when I walked into a store that was playing Christmas carols… until I realized what the date was. Holy crap where did the year go? I was happy as hell to see that the holidays aren’t the only thing that people are chattering about. Thankfully, I found many interesting and informative blogs and threads on a huge variety of topics to keep me busy… and to get my mind back OFF of the holiday season. I’m just not ready quite yet!

You know that I record in front of a live audience. I invited them to participate on a site I came across for this video. It was a successful experiment, but it’s quite obvious that you just never know what someone will type when they feel they are “anonymous” on the Internet.

Your World of Text is a free site where you can go and just start typing. You can put anything you want – anywhere on the page you want. Your World of Text is an infinite grid of text editable by any visitor. The changes made by other people appear on your screen as they happen. Everyone starts in the same place, but you can scroll through the world using your mouse.

If you want to start your own World, just add any letters or words you wish to the end of the site URL. For instance, we added the word Geeky to the end. You can still head over there and check out what was typed, and change it as you wish. If you choose a hard-to-guess word or letter combo, chances of keeping your World private from others are much higher. This allows you to have your own private little place on the net to type whatever is on your mind. Since you don’t need to register to use the site, no one will ever know it was you!

So what is Tatango? It’s a free site that allows you to text message umpteen-billion people at once. Standard texting rates will apply, of course. If you have something important to say, why not tell everyone all at once?

Managing text in a single text file is a bit of a kluge. Let’s say that text happens to be code, such as PHP or CSS. You may want color highlighting, so that if you make a mistake you’ll be able to detect it easier. You want to have a text management tool at your disposal, no matter what operating system you happen to be using.

The free Snippely is just what you’re looking for. It’s an Adobe AIR app, made by the folks at Google Code. Snippely is a basic text and code organizational tool. Instead of storing bits of code, quick notes, and memos in text files all over your hard drive, this application will let you save and organize “snippets” in one convenient location. A snippet is a collection of one or more pieces of code and notes. Snippets are stored in groups for organization and quick retrieval.

You set up groups, and you have sub-groups within those. You can add notes and colors to different parts of your group areas. It’s really easy to do, just drag-and-drop things where you need them to be. You can even choose to make the notes appear in plain text!

Whether you’re managing plain-text snippets, or code snippets, Snippely is going to work great for you.

They increase my productivity by quite a lot. There’s a really cool website I found that doesn’t require me to use a mouse ever. Simply type in the search query, and the results fill themselves in automatically. You can use your keyboard arrow keys to navigate through the results, as well. keyboardr allows you to search without ever using your mouse.

keyboardr is a homepage. It speeds up your Internet experience. And if you like, it helps you keep your hands on the keyboard.

In the first place, keyboardr is a meta-search. You get Google, Wikipedia, and Youtube search results all together in one easy place. The instant search and the keyboard navigation are replacing the feeling of “searching” with the feeling of “launching”.

I’m always on the prowl for interesting websites and services that can help us, whether you’re a power user or a novice. I recently found a website that I am excited to pass on to all of you.

Tinypaste is a place where you can paste text or code to save and share with another person, or multiple people. It’s so easy to use, that it needs no explanation on the website! Simply paste in your text, and click the “Submit” button. It will take all that text and give you a small URL which will link directly back to what you pasted in.

There is also a Firefox Extension available for Tinypaste. The extension allows you to right click on any text you have selected, click “Tinypaste selected text”, and presto! You have the Tinypaste URL. You never have to leave the page you are on.

I’m always on the prowl for interesting websites and services that can help us, whether you’re a power user or a novice. I recently found a website that I am excited to pass on to all of you.

Tinypaste is a place where you can paste text or code to save and share with another person, or multiple people. It’s so easy to use, that it needs no explanation on the website! Simply paste in your text, and click the “Submit” button. It will take all that text and give you a small URL which will link directly back to what you pasted in.

There is also a Firefox Extension available for Tinypaste. The extension allows you to right click on any text you have selected, click “Tinypaste selected text”, and presto! You have the Tinypaste URL. You never have to leave the page you are on.

Thanks to all of you for sending in your Top Five lists. These are great! Keep them coming, by emailing them to me at chris@pirillo.com. This one gives us some excellent text etiquette tips!

  • Do not write in “text language.” It is hard to read and you look like an idiot who can’t take the time to spell out words. For example, don’t use: Yo, c u l8r ily!
  • Do not send short text messages like “ok”, “hey”, “no”…ect. Most people don’t have unlimited text messaging. Because if you send someone something like hey, they send back hey, then you say how was your day, they say great, they say how was your day, You just wasted 5 text messages. Say something more like “Hey, how was your day?” Also, don’t send “No-end texts.” There the kind were someone says “Hahaha.” you have no idea what to say next. Think when you’re texting like you are having a real conversation, face to face.
  • Don’t send forwards. They drive people crazy! Forwards are the messages that say, “If you don’t send this to 345 people in 2 hours, the little girls spirit will haunt your for life.” Are you really going to believe that?
  • Don’t do anything on your phone that you can do on your computer! Don’t download songs, check your email and all that other web stuff when you can do it on your computer! You will end up paying a whole lot of money on data charges. Its not that pretty when you get your bill and you see you owe 70 bucks in data charges or more!
  • Last but not least, don’t sign up for all the “Text message Alert” features you get everywhere. Before you know it, your bill will have you paying $100 for all those texts! Just look at it online at your computer. Its also a waste of time for you checking all those texts. Stop being glued to your phone and explore the world.
