I don’t know about you, but my inbox sees more than a hundred spam messages per day. These are only the ones that somehow bypass the filters that are in place. It seems as though no matter how hard you try, you cannot wipe out all of the spam that flies about the intertubes. This is where a small Javascript such as EmailScramber can come in handy.

There’s nothing to sign up for or download and it takes only a minute to do. Add your email address and link text (and the optional items if you wish) and click the little grey box to encode. Your email address will be scrambled up like this morning’s breakfast into a tidy little “mail to” link you can safely paste anywhere on the web. It can also be used for hiding other links from bots and automated scripts.

We may never completely wipe out spam but this is one sure way to help cut down on the junk you see every day in your email client.

Some of us who have been on the Internet for a while remember when spam email just wanted to sell you some junk. Some spam still wants to sell you junk, but a good portion of the spam is more dangerous. There are emails that are loaded with malware. And with Valentine’s Day coming, there will be a flood of spam mail. Valentine’s Day is an opportunity for spammers.

The malware found in these emails is intended to steal your personal information and/or turn your computers into a part of a bot-network. The bot network is to spread more spam and more malware.

It is not only special occasions like Valentine’s Day that triggers a flood of spam. A natural disaster, like the Haiti tragedy, or a salacious news story will start an increase in spam.

In 2004, Bill Gates predicted that the spam problem would be solved by 2006. Unfortunately, Bill Gates was wrong – very wrong. You know that a good portion of your email is spam.

What we recommend as a means to handle spam is MailWasher Pro. Over eight million people protect themselves from spam and malware dangers with MailWasher Pro. That number of people grows daily. It is simply one of the best ways available for handling spam mail. One of our security reviewers has used this product daily for almost a decade, so the recommendation for MailWasher Pro comes from years of every day experience with this legendary program. We know this program well.

MailWasher Pro is effective and it is easy to use:

“Apart from being the most effective software to fight spam, you’ll find that MailWasher is probably the easiest anti-spam software to use. We took the view that if we can’t understand how to use a piece of software in under 5 minutes then it’s probably always going to be hard to use. Why try and learn a whole lot of new icons and procedures? You want a program with a minimal learning curve, is easy to use and looks attractive.”

One of the ways that spam is handled by some programs is by means of filters. The problem is that sometimes the filter screens out legitimate email. And sometimes spam by-passes the filters. One of the great features of MailWasher Pro is that it allows the user to preview the email prior to downloading onto the computer. With a brief glance, you will be able to tell what is legitimate email and what is junk. And you do this while the email is not on your computer.

That is one of the great security features of MailWasher Pro – you will be screening your email before you download it onto your computer. Consider this as viewing the mail at the server level instead of handling it while it is on your machine. That is an added level of security. – You decide which email accesses your computer.

Making the decision when the email is on your computer is simply dangerous. For example, at some points during the day, you might be tired or rushed. You may be preoccupied with other things. An error with malware mail leads to a load of problems. Mailwasher Pro allows you to make the decision at the server level – while the email is away from your machine. It is an effective, easy and brilliant way of handling the spam problem. MailWasher Pro works with Windows and is effective for POP3, IMAP, AOL, GMail, Yahoo, and Hotmail.

Stop just downloading your email to Outlook or Outlook Express. Preview it first!
Now, our readers have fifty per cent discount when buying MailWasher Pro. It is a generous, limited time offer, expiring on February 17th, 2010.

Use this coupon code lockerg when ordering.

And one final point… MailWasher Pro has an active support system. It has a live technical support system, as well as a forum. We have been following the development of this program for many years. The founder is a friend of this site and runs a first class operation from New Zealand. There are continual improvements on this excellent program. You will consider MailWasher Pro a “must-have” for every computer you own. And if there is a reason that you don’t like the MailWasher Pro program, there is a 100% money back guarantee. That’s how confident the MailWasher Pro people are about this program.

An article over on TechCrunch today sparks an interesting thought. Michael Arrington states that “The online social landscape today sort of feels to me like search did in 1999. It’s a mess, but we don’t complain much about it because we don’t know there’s a better way.”. He continues that rationale by discussing how things used to be years ago, when we would use things like AltaVista to search, and end up with a bajillion unwanted results… never to find what we were really looking for.

Michael is right on the money when he discusses how decentralized everything is in the social networking landscape these days. I’m right there with him. I have updates, photos, posts and videos spread out over this huge spread of networks. I have friends on one that aren’t necessarily on another. Therefore, I feel the need to try and update everything all at once. Or… I could always use my new Lockergnome.net lifestream, and hope that everyone who follows me will join me there to keep up with me.

I’ve attempted to centralize things for all of you with Lockergnome. The problem is, as Arrington says, not everyone is everywhere. How on Earth are we ever going to update everyone – with all of our media and information – all at once?

Another problem that Michael touches on is an important one, as well. Often when we try to find something specific, we fail. It’s not because the information isn’t out there… it’s because at times what we need gets buried underneath things that aren’t relevant. Again, this circles back to the way search functionality used to be. If I’m looking for information about a specific trend on Twitter and search for it… I will often get hundreds of tweet results that have absolutely nothing to do with the subject at hand. Spammers latch onto trending topics and keywords to get themselves noticed. I then have to wade through all of that looking for what is actually important, and relevant.

I am just as clueless as Micheal is when it comes to finding a solution to the noise pollution problem found on networks such as Facebook and Twitter. With millions of users each per day, it’s not going to be an easy task to straighten everything out. Are you inundated with noise on your social network? Are you tired of trying to sort through the junk to get to the good stuff? If you’re with me… what do you feel the answer is. IS it possible to weed out the bad, and only find the good?

If you’re on Facebook, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Recently, we’ve seen more than our fair share of chain messages making their way around, but not in our Inbox. These lovely little pieces of garbage are being sported right in the status boxes of thousands of profiles! One message claimed that if you re-posted it as your status, Facebook would donate a dollar to the Haiti relief efforts. Yet another was supposedly only for women. They were supposed to post their color of certain undergarments in their status pane, leaving the men to guess what it referred to.

It was only a matter of time, I suppose, before things like this made their way onto social media platforms. We’ve already had to deal with “legitimate” spam, of course. Now, we have to try not to tear out our hair every time we see yet another of these over-forwarded messages on Facebook and even Twitter. I promise you… Facebook isn’t donating a dollar for every person that posts that particular message. And, of course, you aren’t going to see some random woman’s bra or panties if you post the color of them in your status!

Just think about what you’re doing before you blindly click on or forward a link? And if you need links to click on, try these – posted by our community today. Keep up the great work, everyone!

There’s nothing wrong with occasionally letting your inner child come out to play when you’re a grown-up. I personally think it can help keep you sane and stress-free if you let your hair down once in awhile, and take the time to remember what it’s like to play. What do you do during occasions like these? Do you indulge yourself with crayons? Do you prefer to duke it out with action figures?

What toys do your inner child still love to play with?

It always makes me cringe when someone in my live chat room boasts that they are smart enough to not need any protection software on their computer. I shudder when they claim they couldn’t possibly get infected because they watch what they download. Seriously, folks… in this day and age, do you honestly think that’s all there is to it? Have you not listened to anything we’ve been trying to tell you?!

Your machine can get infected in so many more ways besides downloading something malicious. Have you heard of drive-by installers? That is where you visit a site that appears to be harmless and legitimate, and have malicious software install itself to your computer without your even knowing it. You don’t have to download something. You don’t have to click on anything. It just happens. There are even sites that appear to be geared towards kids that will do this.

Often, these pieces of malware don’t even display any symptoms. There aren’t popups, slow downs, or anything of the sort. They just sit quietly on your computer, hidden from view, doing their thing to steal your information. You won’t even know they are there. How, then, can you be 100% sure you are not already infected?

When it comes to keeping your information and identity private, you cannot be too careful. We’ve worked hard over the past several months to bring you some good savings on several different excellent pieces of software, all of which are designed to keep you safe online. Keep in mind that you should never use more than one AntiVirus, one software firewall, and one AntiSpyware program at the same time. You can (and should!) have one of each of those, along with a hardware firewall if at all possible to keep you as protected as humanly possible.

Here, in no particular order, is a listing of the software we recommend you use for yourself.

SafeBit Disk Encryption – SafeBit features on-the-fly disk encryption, by creating encrypted virtual disk drives, where you can hide files and folders, keep them encrypted all the time, but still work with these files just like you work with normal files. Disk Encryption is transparent to the user.

Invisible Secrets 4 – Invisible Secrets 4 not only encrypts your data and files for safe keeping or for secure transfer across the Net, it also hides them in places that on the surface appear totally innocent, such as picture or sound files, or Web pages. With Invisible Secrets 4 file encryption software, you may encrypt and hide files directly from Windows Explorer, and then automatically transfer them by e-mail or via the Internet.

SUPERAntiSpyware – SUPERAntiSpyware has Real-Time Blocking of threats! Prevent potentially harmful software from installing or re-installing! First Chance Prevention examines over 50 critical points of your system each time your system starts up and shuts down to eliminate threats before they have a chance to infect and infiltrate your system.

Acronis True Image Home 2010 – It should be a simple rule that every computer user should follow: back up your data. It is not a matter of “if” your computer will give you problems. It is a matter of “when.” Acronis makes it simple for you to back up your information in the case of an emergency. You can find coupons for Acronis True Image on Coupons.Lockergnome.com.

MailWasher Pro – One of the ways that spam is handled is by means of filters. The problem is that sometimes a filter screens out legitimate email. And sometimes spam bypasses the filters. One of the great features of MailWasher Pro is that it allows the user to preview the email prior to downloading onto the computer. With a brief glance, you will be able to tell what is legitimate email and what is junk. And you do this while the email is not on your computer.

VIPRE – VIPRE is a seamless solution that provided anti-virus protection and anti-spyware protection, along with anti-rootkit, anti-malware, and many other security technologies. It is really easy to use. It doesn’t slow your system down at all, either. You can find coupons for VIPRE on Coupons.Lockergnome.com.

Sunbelt Personal Firewall – Even if you are protected by a router that sits between your computer and the Internet, you still need a firewall. The Sunbelt Personal Firewall blocks unwanted traffic that is incoming – but it also monitors what leaves from your machine. This is critical, as the information going out could be your personal information. You can find coupons for Sunbelt Personal Firewall on Coupons.Lockergnome.com.

RoboForm Pro – You can safeguard your personal information with RoboForm Pro. It will protect users from phishing attempts. It will remember the sites that you want to use, and it won’t allow you to use a spoofed Web site. The phony sites are sometimes so good that it’s almost impossible to tell they are fake until it’s too late. RoboForm Pro will identify which sites are “real” and which sites are not. You can find coupons for RoboForm Pro on Coupons.Lockergnome.com.

Password Manager – Password Manager secures your logins, hides your keystrokes and encrypts your passwords. Password Manager protects your identity and is an added layer of security from phishing attempts. It is a guard from identity theft.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to keep yourself safe. Criminals and hackers are getting smarter by the day, just as you are. It’s literally impossible to know everything, right? How, then, can you be 100% certain that you “know” your computer couldn’t become infected – if it isn’t already?

So I was told that while in Honolulu, I had to eat a traditional “Local Breakfast” at the McDonald’s. Ok, so let’s do this. I can handle it, right? It won’t kill me, right?

The “Local Breakfast” includes white rice, eggs, Portuguese sausage, and Spam. You read the correctly – Spam. Honest-to-goodness… SPAM. What the heck. When in Rome…

The Spam actually tasted good, as did the rice. It is very Hawaiian tasting, with maybe a hint of Connecticut thrown in. The Portuguese sausage, well, I’m not so sure. At least now I know what it tastes like.

Thankfully, they had the normal old fruit punch to wash it all down with. I thought maybe it would taste better in Hawaii, but it’s just the same old punch as I get here in Seattle.

Have you ever eaten Spam? Where did you have it? How was it cooked? Most importantly.. did you like it?

The unfortunate deaths of a number of celebrities recently has generated an increase in spam. Add political scandals to the news, and the junk mail really spikes upward. There has been (and will continue to be) a significantly higher volume of this junk email directed at your inbox. Not only is this spam a waste of your time, it can be dangerous. A current article illustrates that spam is a means of delivering malware.

Spam may seem like an everyday nuisance. As such, people tend to forget that it is a real danger. It is a means for hackers / criminals to access your computer. Some hackers don’t want to sell you any junk. The goal is to control your computer and/or steal your personal, confidential information for identity theft.

Over eight million people protect themselves from spam and malware dangers with MailWasher Pro. That number of people grows daily. It is simply one of the best ways available for handling spam. One of our security reviewers has used this product daily for almost a decade, so the recommendation for MailWasher Pro comes from years of experience with this legendary program.

MailWasher Pro is effective and it is easy to use:

Apart from being the most effective software to fight spam, you’ll find that MailWasher is probably the easiest anti-spam software to use. We took the view that if we can’t understand how to use a piece of software in under five minutes, then it’s probably always going to be hard to use. Why try and learn a whole lot of new icons and procedures? You want a program with a minimal learning curve, is easy to use, and looks attractive.

One of the ways that spam is handled is by means of filters.

That’s right – you will be screening your email before you download it onto your computer. Consider this as viewing the mail at the server level instead of handling it while it is on your machine. That is an added level of security – you decide which email accesses your computer.

Why make the decision when the email is on your computer? That is simply dangerous. Mailwasher Pro allows you to make the decision at the server level – while the email is away from your machine. It is an effective, easy ,and brilliant way of handling the spam problem. MailWasher Pro works with Windows and is effective for POP3, IMAP, AOL, Gmail, Yahoo!, and Hotmail. Stop just downloading your email to Outlook or Outlook Express. Preview it first!

Now our readers have fifty per cent discount when buying MailWasher Pro. Yes – really – for a limited time, it is possible to buy MailWasher Pro at half price:

Use this coupon code: lockerg

This remarkable offer expires on July 8, 2009. (Contact us if you want this program in high volume. We’ll see if we can help.)

And one final point… MailWasher Pro has an active support system. It has a live technical support system, as well as a forum. We have been following the development of this program for many years. The founder is a friend of this site and runs a first class operation. It shows. This is just an excellent program. You will consider MailWasher Pro a “must-have” for every computer you own.

Some people who spend many hours online fighting malware requested that this top-rated firewall be brought back, as an offer for our readers. It was formerly known as the Kerio Personal Firewall. Now, it is called the Sunbelt Personal Firewall.

This firewall was discussed previously. Not all firewalls are the same. They differ in efficiency. The Sunbelt Personal Firewall blocks unwanted traffic that is incoming but it also monitors what leaves from your machine. That cannot be stressed enough.

Let’s say that for some reason a malware does infect your machine. If that malware starts sending out information from your machine, you want to know that. For example, what is sent out may be your personal information. Furthermore, it may be that your computer is now part of a bot spamming operation. A good firewall, which monitors the outgoing traffic, will give you an additional chance at catching some infection that has occurred on your machine.

This offers expires on May 20, 2009. The Sunbelt Personal Firewall is really a gift at ten dollars. Yes, it is only ten dollars when you use this link and the coupon code SPFLOCKERGNOME when you place your order.

There is one further note from the people who deal with malware, like our very own resident Malware-removal Expert Kat. It is a bit of a shock – but there are still people who do not use a firewall. That may be hard to believe but when these malware fighters inspect logs of what people have on their machines, there isn’t a firewall. At this price, the Sunbelt Personal Firewall is more than affordable protection. Look on your email contact list and see if there is a family member or some newbie who might be just learning about computers. Ask them if they use a firewall. And don’t be surprised if they ask you… “what is that?”. – Then just buy this for them. You’ll be glad you did.

Over eight million people can’t be wrong! That number represents the growing number of people who use MailWasher to handle the spam problem. One of our security reviewers has used this product for almost a decade, so the recommendation for MailWasher Pro comes from years of experience with this legendary program.

MailWasher Pro is effective and it is easy to use:

Apart from being the most effective software to fight spam, you’ll find that MailWasher is probably the easiest anti-spam software to use. We took the view that if we can’t understand how to use a piece of software in under 5 minutes then it’s probably always going to be hard to use. Why try and learn a whole lot of new icons and procedures? You want a program with a minimal learning curve, is easy to use and looks attractive.

Everyone, with the exception of the spammers, hates junk mail. Spam not only wastes your time, it can be a means of delivering malware and various infections to your computer. One of the goals of MailWasher Pro is to allow the user to preview the email prior to downloading. Consider this as viewing the mail at the server level instead of handling it while it is on your machine. That is an added level of security.

Other programs claim to screen your email and filter it for you. The problem (and the danger) of those systems is that you may lose some of the mail that you want. Legitimate email may be filtered and eliminated. That does not happen with MailWasher Pro. You can have a brief glance at the mail at the server level and eliminate what you do not want. It’s easy and it’s an elegant way of handling the spam problem.

It is possible to set up friends lists, blacklists, and filters. If some spammer is mail “bombing” your account, for example, MailWasher Pro can handle this easily. MailWasher Pro includes a heuristic virus scanner. And it is possible to bounce the email to make your account look like it is an inactive account. These are just some of the anti-spam tools that MailWasher Pro offers. There are many more features but let’s just say that this is an excellent security program.

Now, our readers have an opportunity to buy MailWasher Pro with a fifty per cent discount. Yes — really — for a limited time, it is possible to buy MailWasher Pro at half price.

To take advantage of this great offer, use coupon code: lockerg.

This remarkable offer expires on April 27, 2009. (Contact us if you want this program in high volume. We’ll see if we can help.)

Mailwasher Pro works with AOL, Gmail, Yahoo!, Hotmail, IMAP, and POP3. Stop just downloading your email to Outlook or Outlook Express. Preview it first!

And one final point… MailWasher Pro has an active support system. It has a live technical support system, as well as a forum. This is just a first class operation — and just an excellent program. You will consider MailWasher Pro a “must-have” for every computer you own. It is that good.

I received the following email the other day from Doug:

I’m still surprised at times when I get an e-mail forwarded to me that claims something is true without anyone having checked the validity of the contents. I recently got an e-mail regarding a Dr Dobson petition, and there were almost 3000 names on it already when it came to me. To me it should be common practice to people to do a quick & simple internet search to find out more information before blindly forwarding stuff to everyone on your contacts list. Even if the e-mail already has a link attempting to validate the information, I’m going to want more than one source reporting the same thing. One person forwarding an e-mail with 0-1 sources does not validate the contents.

I will usually copy/paste some main part of the text into Google and I’ll typically quickly find several resources that discuss the origin and validity of the information in the e-mail. Then I will reply to all on the e-mail I got and post a few of those links letting them know where to find more information and encouraging them to do likewise in the future when they get e-mails like this and are tempted to forward them to people. I would like to think that the audience that watch your videos are internet savvy enough to already know this but even if they are, perhaps they would encourage their circle of contacts (friends, relatives, community, etc) to squash useless e-mail chains instead of fueling them. What the world needs now is more useful information and less useless information to fill up our in-boxes, bog down the mail servers, and waste our time reading the garbage.

So I wanted to see how you felt about doing a video to your audience on this topic.

One of the first things you should do when receiving an email claiming “You’ll save this little girl’s life by forwarding this!”, or “Send me to ten friends right now!”… is to check with Snopes. The Snopes website is a huge ‘database’ full of urban legends and truths. I’ll bet 99% of the time that the email chains you receive are useless junk.
As Doug stated in his email, you can also paste a small part of the text of the email into Google, and research it. Don’t blindly forward an email like these. Know what it is you’re sending out. Know whether it’s even legitimate or not.
Also, stop sending emails to people with videos embedded in them. It’s horrible to do! There are SO many places online you can host the video for free. Then, just send out the link to the video. It’s smaller, and faster to send a simple link to someone. It’s just not cool to send entire videos in an email.
