Honestly, I don’t have a pattern when it comes to online shopping. Sometimes, I do broad searches – and other times, I just head to Amazon. To me, it’s not always about finding the lowest price for something – it’s about finding the best sales process, shipping, and catalog. Even though it’s easier to shop on the Internet (compared to driving all around town), I’d still rather go to a single site to buy a select set of items. Maybe it’s just that it’s still a PITA to enter my contact and credit card information over and over again.

So, yeah – what if you wanna do comparison shopping in a proactive way?

There are a couple of ways you can do this, but they’re both tied into a subscription of sorts.

Google Alerts will do something similar to what you want:

Google Alerts are email updates of the latest relevant Google results (web, news, etc.) based on your choice of query or topic.

Some handy uses of Google Alerts include:

  • monitoring a developing news story
  • keeping current on a competitor or industry
  • getting the latest on a celebrity or event
  • keeping tabs on your favorite sports teams

You may also want to see if your favorite shopping sites have RSS or Atom feeds for searches, so you can subscribe to that search and be automatically notified when a new product is added or a price drops.
