I hate being told that my Web site is not working. Worse yet, I hate NOT being told that my Web site is not working. When servers go down (and let’s face it, that’s a fact of life), life as we know it ceases to exist. Shayne has installed a monitoring tool for watchdogging our load balanced systems, but that didn’t stop me from registering for the free Montastic service: the free website monitoring service that doesn’t suck. Well, the design of the site is kinda sucky, but the service does work as reported!

As stated in last night’s Windows Fanatics Lockergnome report, we’re moving servers – and a lot of things might not work well for a couple of days. I believe we’ll be good to go by Gnomedex, and I realize this was horrible timing on our part. The discussion lists are non-functional for the time being, so I’d hope that if you were subscribed to any one of them, you also subscribe to my personal space. I’m using Ecto for Windows to post this update and… so far, I’m not at all impressed with Ecto. I don’t understand why everybody and their grandmother has been recommending it?! w.Bloggar is infinitely better – even though I’d be willing to pay for a fantastic and fast desktop blogging client.

I hate to sound cliche, but… I’m UNDER CONSTRUCTION. In the past couple of days, I’ve been quite silent. Partially, because I’ve been flushing my inbox of necessary tasks (largely Gnomedex related). Partially, because Shayne and I have been working on getting WordPress running on our new servers. That, and I spent some time trying to find a template I liked (and could work with). What you should see before you is the “new” me – with archived posts all the way back to the beginning of chris.pirillo.com – 2002!
VMware and Parallels for Virtual Machines

It doesn't matter if you're running on Windows or Mac OS X - every power user needs either Parallels or VMware (or both). There's never been an easier way to test software without destroying your primary operating system's stability. Think of how many times you wish you could press a 'reverse' button on your computer. Plus, there's no easier way to try new Linux distributions - see what all the fuss is about. Run Windows in OS X, run Linux in Windows, but the best way to do either is with VMware and/or Parallels.
