Software and the holidays go hand in hand. There are many great deals to be found this time of year online. Today, I want to let you know about a great site to save up to 20% on Mac Software this season. The video that is playing right now on my monitor is found on YouTube. Santa put this on our first computer that we actually received for Christmas when I was a kid… our old Commodore64. Seeing this brings back a lot of memories, and really puts me in the holiday spirit.

Awhile back, I told you about a website to save you HUGE amounts of money on Mac software, called Give Good Food 2 Your mac. For a limited amount of time, you could save up to 70% on popular software titles for your Mac. Well, now I want to tell you about another site. MacSantaDeals is posting five new deals every day, that you can save 20% on! Once those deals of the day are finished, they are archived, and you can still save 10%. Another fun and great site is MacHeist. This site has a game you can play, with clues and riddles to follow. I actually won a free copy of WireTap Pro, simply by playing along! There are great deals to be had, if you just look for them.

Just because a game is in the bargain bin doesn’t make it bad. “Old” games are just as fun as new ones… at a fraction of the cost. Here are SpecerDodd’s top five bargain games for both the Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo PS2 game system. His criteria for making this list is simple: the game must be fun, be under $10.00, and work on newer game consoles.

Top 5 for the Xbox gaming system:

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3. This game is the best of the series, and gets a rare 10 out of 10 on Gamespot.com.
NHL Hits 2003 is an excellent and fun game for even non-hockey fans.
Grand Theft Auto 3 is an all-time favorite for many people.
Max Payne by Rockstar has an awesome story line, and self-adjusting difficulty levels.
Unreal Chamionship 2 is probably one of the most powerful first-person shooting games of all time.

Since GameSpot is running a “buy two get one free” special, I picked up all of these bargain-priced games for my Xbox for a grand total of $14.96. Amazing, eh?

Top 5 for the PS2:

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Man, what an awesome game.
Again: Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3.
Unreal Tournament. I just love this game, no matter which system I’m playing it on.
Metal Gears 2: Sons of Liberty, with it’s excellent shooting and story line.
Max Payne again. This is one of the best console games of all time, hands down.

With the sale at GameSpot, the total for the PS2 games was only $25.95. You just can’t beat that!

Shawn from TechWebLog.net sent me his top 5 tips for Christmas and holiday shopping. Reading through the list, these are all excellent things to keep in mind at any time of the year.

Get an Extended Warranty. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had an electrical product fail due to poor quality or excessive use. If a warranty isn’t offered where you are shopping, walk away. Chances are, another store or merchant will offer one.
Have patience. If the product is not in stock, don’t settle for something that isn’t exactly what you want. The store may get another shipment in within the next few days, or you may find it at another retailer. You can also ask a sales clerk or manager if they have some in “the back” that hasn’t hit the shelf yet. Sometimes, that actually does work!
Ask about the return policy. It happens all the time. People get a duplicate gift, the wrong size, or the wrong color/style. Make sure the store you are buying from has a return policy, and what it is. Do they give store credit? What about an even exchange for wrong sizing? How difficult will it be for the gift recipient to exchange? Always ask for a gift receipt, as well. Many stores now only give credit at the lowest sale price within the last 90 days. If you paid $60.00 for something, and it went on sale the next week for $30.00… the person would only get a $30.00 credit upon return without that gift receipt.
Shop around. Check sale ads for various stores, and even on their websites. You may find much better prices at a store three blocks away, than at your normal shopping haunt. You should also always consider checking for online coupons and deals to save even more money.
Do your homework. Search through blogs, reviews and posts around the Internet. Make sure that the majority of people are happy with the product you are planning to buy. Check to see if there are a lot of negatives, such as missing pieces and parts, shoddy workmanship, or the like.

I think you missed out on your Five Tech Shopping Tips. It really should have been Six Tips. Here’s the Sixth (and some say the most important!)-
Always read the fine print when you’re buying, be it new or used!
Before you plop down the plastic, read up on all the things you’d rather ignore. That includes return policies, DOA returns and or exchanges, price protection, etc… There have been more tears shed over a sniveling return policy with a monstrous restocking charge than those shed because someone bought something they simply wanted. Personally, I’d rather be sorry for busting the budget over an excellent product than working hard to buy something at the absolute lowest price, only to be tortured by a rat in vendor’s clothing.
