What is the Nicest Thing You've Ever Done?

I couldn’t help but smile as I read a post on Geeks earlier. The original author reposted a story that she had read somewhere. There is no attribution, simply because it was originally posted online by someone who wished to remain anonymous. The story tells about a kind act the person did for a teenager in need. At the end of the story, the Geeks poster says that it always makes her smile, knowing that the World we live in isn’t so bad, after all.

I have to agree. This World really isn’t so bad. I witness and read about random acts of goodness on a daily basis. The work that my friend Mark Horvath is doing with homeless people touches my heart constantly. The work our buddy Drew Olanoff to help raise cancer awareness is astounding. People just like you are making a difference, one small random act of kindness at a time.

What is the nicest thing you’ve ever done for another person? It doesn’t matter if you did not help a homeless teenager and her baby return home. Every act, no matter how small they seem to you, make a big impact on someone’s life. Any time the opportunity arises to help someone else, we should grab it.

This wasn’t the only great thing posted in our community today. I’m proud to say that we have an amazing network of people, working hard every day to bring the latest news, reports, opinions and emotions to life within our small corner of the World.

New Year’s Resolutions with a Twist

While you’re making your list of resolutions this year, why not add in some of a different nature? If you’ve been “meaning” to have more of a presence on the various social media networks, why not turn that into a resolution? Resolve to send out a particular number of thought-provoking tweets per day. Decide how often you will be able to update your various site profiles, and stick to it!

People want to know what you’re up to. I know, I know… you’re busy. I am, as well! But it’s critical these days to have an active presence on the various social media sites if you’re any kind of social Geek. You have to keep yourself – and your community – updated. Don’t just post about your dinner, either. People want to know what’s really going on in that head of yours!

Commit yourself to not only blogging yourself, but to reading what others have done. There are a lot of excellent findings right within our own community, if only you make the time to look!

New Year’s Resolutions… What’s Yours?

Maura DesimoneMaura Desimone, from the Color and Design Trends blog found a great new gadget to help you lose weight.

A New Year begins with nothing other than a new resolution! Consistently over the years, resolutions stay pretty much the same….losing weight, spending more time with family & friends, cleaning your closets, quitting smoking, renewing your spirit, whatever it may be. In the flavor of honoring perhaps the most popular resolution of all time…weight loss…I’ve found the perfect weight loss (aka healthy eating) assistant. It’s called a “Nutrition Kitchen Scale“. I have never heard of these, but after reviewing it, I wish I had. This scale has the ability to analyze the nutritional content of your food by portion size. It calculates the calories, protein, carbohydrates, total sugars, total fat, fiber, sodium, cholesterol & carbohydrates found in your food. Not only does it help you track what you’re eating, you can also save it to the memory to more accurately track your eating habits….no cheating here! And who would mind having this sleek, stylish scale on your counter top? It’s almost art. This is a great way to support yourself for a happy & healthy New Year.
