As you already know, my iPhone 4 arrived today. After getting everything set up and synched, I had to test it out. I’ve already recorded some videos with it, made a few calls, sent a couple of texts and talked with my buddy David via FaceTime. The next test was taking photos. I take a LOT of pictures. Most of them are done indoors at various functions, or here in my home when my dogs are being more than adorable. Therefore, I tried a few indoor shots to see how they look. YOU tell ME – how awesome is this camera?

Playing games is fun, but sometimes one screen is just not enough. Wouldn’t you have a much better experience if you were using three screens? With AMD’s Eyefinity, you can easily run three screens off of one graphics card. I spent a little bit of time with Casey while I was at AMDs campus in Texas recently. Casey is the Director of Product Marketing for the graphics side of their company. He wanted to share with us the advances made with Eyefinity, and how it can improve your gaming experience, along with your productivity.

The Eyefinity project allows you to expand your gaming experience from one monitor to three. Many of you are now trying to point out we’ve had multi-monitor capability for awhile now. That may be true, but there were drawbacks. We were pretty limited to two monitors. Also, the dual-monitor setup didn’t always work for gaming. Sure, it would work to extend your desktop. However, as soon as you fired up that favorite game you’d be stuck on only one screen again.

What AMD has done is to re-architect their video card to where they can treat the entire three-screen resolution as one single large surface. Instead of seeing it as three separate panels, the operating system will now see it as only one. It’s difficult to explain, because you honestly have to see it in action for yourself. It’s very fluid, with an amazing performance.

Casey also showed me the Eyefinity 6 Edition. This single graphics card can effectively run SIX monitors. Yes, I typed that correctly. SIX. MONITORS. It was insane to see that in action up close and personal, let me tell you. There were six 24″ displays, each running with 1900×1200 resolution.

Some people may wonder why they would want three – or six! – monitors. Why can’t you just use one huge 50″ television, instead? It’s all about resolution, my friends. With one large TV, you’re going to have this huge picture, but it’s not going to be very clear. With multiple smaller screens, such as those Eyefinity runs on, you’re going to have an amazing picture, and it will be seamless… not stretched out beyond recognition.

Eyefinity is an amazing advancement in both gaming and productivity technology. Until you see it for yourself, you’re honestly not going to be able to understand it. Seeing it in this video gives you an idea. But having it running right in front of you is on another level entirely.

AMD Eyefinity Multi-Monitor for Gaming

As I sit here preparing for the big event tonight, I can’t help but reminisce about Cory. While doing so, it just reminds me of the past ten years in general in my life. What a decade it has been! I’ve been fortunate to make a good career out of doing things I am passionate about, and I can honestly say I love what I do. My Gnomedex conference is heading into its tenth year in 2010, and I promise you we’re already working hard to make it as awesome as we possibly can!

I’m not one to make resolutions, really. Instead, I prefer to set goals for myself. I know that if I say “I will… “, it will likely not happen exactly the way I planned. Life gets in the way. Priorities can change in an instant depending on what’s going on around you. I would rather just set some goals for myself, my community, and my work. What goals or resolutions do you have?

I could never have accomplished everything in the early part of this year that I have if it weren’t for all of you – the community. Your support, strength and enthusiasm have driven me further, helping me to reach for new heights personally and professionally. You guys (and gals!) are the backbone of everything I do. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here, and going along for the ride with me on our journey into 2010!

Being without my cable internet connection yesterday sure made me realize how much I appreciate it when it works. What the heck is a Geek supposed to do without a connection? How can I get my fix?! Reflections for the New Year

Bill sent me a list of some excellent tips to follow after the Holidays are over and gone. If you think before you do… and then actually DO what you thought… your life next year might just be happier.

• Don’t groan when the credit card bills roll in from the holiday shopping. You know it was money well spent. Of course, when shopping, always look for the best deals, and coupons. Try to stay away from “impulse buying”, as well. Plan your budget, make a list of who to buy for and ideas for them, and be done with it.
• Look at the new year as being full of new opportunities and experiences. Apply yourself, and watch how much you can grow and change as a person.
• Don’t focus your resolutions only on yourself. Dedicate at least one to doing something to make the world better, and KEEP doing it throughout the year.
• Shake the hand of any man or woman you meet who works in a life-saving occupation, including law enforcement, health care personnel, and military members. Let them know how much what they do is appreciated.
• Remember… love, joy and friendship isn’t only about the holidays. Keep them going all year long.

Random acts of kindness can go a long way to making this world a much better place.
