I can’t say that I’ve had a web cam as long as there have been web cams. I have, however, been using them for a very long time. A few months ago, Logitech announced their new QuickCam Vision Pro which is specifically designed for OS X. Many of us were skeptical, since Logitech already had the exact same device for Windows, at a cost of $30 less. What gives? Well, it’s not just that it’s designed only for OS X. The real difference is that all of the settings and tweaks that used to lie in the software in the Windows device now lie in the hardware for the Mac version.

Designed specifically for the Mac, the QuickCam Vision Pro lets you enjoy a video calling experience that far surpasses that of other solutions–either embedded or stand-alone. It features optics by Carl Zeiss, the global leader in camera optics, for image-perfect detail and clarity. Its premium autofocus keeps images razor-sharp, even in the most extreme close-ups. The 2-megapixel sensor will let you enjoy sharper, more lifelike video calling, and RightLight 2 light correction technology adjusts intelligently to produce the best possible image, even in dim or uneven lighting. And the built-in microphone provides clear audio for voice and video conversations.

Key features include:

Autofocus and Carl Zeiss optics for razor-sharp images–even in close-ups

Native support for Mac OS video applications–no software to install

High-definition 2-megapixel sensor for pictures that never looked more real

RightLight 2 technology for dramatic improvements in dim or uneven lighting

Built-in microphone for crystal-clear conversations during your video calls

I know, I get excited over little things. I can’t help it. I love gadgets, and I love things that just plain work. What web cam are you using, and on which operating system? In all of your history of using web cams, what has been your favorite… and why?
