<p><a href="http://live.pirillo.com/">http://live.pirillo.com/</a> &#8211; What is a proxy and why would I want to use one?</p>
<p>When you&#8217;re online you&#8217;re connected to a global network of computers. When you do this you are transmitting information which may be private. If you&#8217;re concerned about your privacy, you may want to connect to a proxy &#8211; a service which routes your data through their connections.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.proxy.org">Proxy.org</a> has a great description on what a proxy is and why you want to use one:</p>
<blockquote><p>Proxies are commonly used for several reasons: security, load balancing, data caching in order to reduce bandwidth demands, and censorship or filtering. Filtering proxies insulate you from objectionable elements of Webpages such as cookies, ad banners, dynamic content like Javascript, Java Applets and ActiveX controls. Some anonymous proxies encrypt your Web communications, protecting you from routine monitoring or even dedicated surveillance. Be careful, though, not all proxies are anonymous!</p>
</blockquote>
<p>Do you use a proxy? What do you use it for? What service are you using?</p>
<p>Want to embed our <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SxgpMjWdos">What is a Proxy?</a> video in your blog? Use this code:</p>
<p><center><textarea style="width: 460px; height: 60px;"><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0SxgpMjWdos"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0SxgpMjWdos" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object><br /><a href="http://live.pirillo.com/">http://live.pirillo.com/</a> / <a href="http://chris.pirillo.com/media/">http://chris.pirillo.com/media/</a></textarea></center></p>
<p><b>Formats available</b>:	<a rel="enclosure" href="http://blip.tv/file/get/L0ckergn0me-WhatIsAProxy209.mp4">MPEG4 Video (.mp4)</a>, 	<a rel="enclosure" href="http://blip.tv/file/get/L0ckergn0me-WhatIsAProxy685.mp3">MP3 Audio (.mp3)</a>, 	<a rel="enclosure" href="http://blip.tv/file/get/L0ckergn0me-WhatIsAProxy507.avi">Microsoft Video (.avi)</a></p>
