We’ve talked about cool Physics-type utilities that are fun, such as OE Cake. Did you even realize how much fun Physics can be? There’s a new application that takes fun with Physics to a whole new level. This week during our GoToMeeting, one of the chatters decided to show off Fantastic Contraption.

Fantastic Contraption allows you to use axles and motion to make things go and reach different levels. Use the different tools to connect various parts, and make the pink ball get pushed into the pink victory zone. There are elements such as water tubes, forward and backward-rotating balls, and even wooden dowel-type rods.

Build a design using these components and then click the Start button to see if what you came up with will work. If it doesn’t, just delete whatever component you feel is the problem, and add something new! You can do this as many times as you need to in order to make your contraption go where it should.

You can literally spend hours on a level of this game, just creating the perfect contraption. It’s very cool to let your mind wander as you create, and then see the results of that when you pass a level. The game will help you to learn and understand more about physics, while having a great time. What more can you ask for?

Math and I get along like oil and water. I realized it wouldn’t be in my future when I took Physics in high school. I remember playing with Crayon Physics years ago, and it was a lot of fun to play with. What I want to show you today is something that will run on your desktop, whether you run on Mac or Windows.

OE-Cake is demonstration software for 2D-based multi-physics simulation. Use your imagination to create your own unique world!

This software supports various physical materials with real life properties such as fluids, gases, rigid (hard) objects and elasticity (soft) objects as building blocks.

Users can combine these objects to create and play with more complex objects and mechanisms such as cars, gears and moving dolls. Users can also attach pictures and photos to objects and change their shape, break them apart, or melt them.

If you know of other cool applications that no one else may have heard of, pass them along to me. Don’t send me the fun ones that everyone is playing. I’m talking about fun, interactive things that the rest of us have yet to discover.
