Cleaning your floors is a necessary part of housekeeping, but it becomes particulary important when you have pets. I recently took a look at the Dyson DC24 Animal, which is an ultra-lightweight and compact Dyson Ball vacuum cleaner optimized for pet hair removal and dirt elimination.

The ball helps provide maneuverability as I showed in this video demo of the Dyson DC24. The Dyson DC24 pet brush helps clean loose hair from your pet, which I demonstrated on a less than willing Wicket.

A second Dyson vacuum – the Dyson DC35 Multi Floor – offers additional versatility for vacuuming hardwood floors in addition to cleaning carpets. I have a lot of hardwood floors in my home, so this is the perfect compliment to my cleaning arsenal.

And yes – I actually clean my own house most of the time.

Tips for Successfully House Training Your Puppy
By Steve Stuchlik

So you now have that puppy that you’ve always wanted, but now you are worried about ruining your carpet or rugs because of accidents. Are you looking for that easy solution to house training your new puppy? Well guess what? There is no easy solution, it is going to take some time, effort, patients, and love from you, but it can be done.

The first thing you have to understand is that your puppy is probably about 6-8 weeks old, and at this age they don’t understand good and bad. They know when they are hungry, thirsty and when they have to relieve themselves, so it is your job as a puppy owner to teach them what to do. The main thing that your puppy wants to do above all other things (no it is not chew your shoes, but that is close LOL), it is to PLEASE YOU. Your puppy understands that you control the food and water, and it wants to make you happy. So make sure that you praise your puppy and give it a treat when it uses the bathroom outside. Under no circumstances should you every yell, whip, spank, or rub your puppies nose in their accident, this will only delay your goal.

If you want to be successful in house training, you will need to establish a routine for your puppy, and to aid with this, I suggest using housetraining pads. I recommend the Ol’Roy brand from Wal-Mart, as they are very inexpensive, about a third to half the cost of other brands from Petco or Petsmart and they work just great. Place the pad as close to the main door as possible so that your puppy will get used to going to that spot, and evidentially, after about 3-4 weeks your puppy will be “going to the door” when it is time to relieve themselves and will continue to do so, even after the pad is gone. Now you know the secret as to why you see your friend’s dog go to the door when they need to “go outside”.

Start off by taking your puppy outside about every 30-45 minutes. Remember your puppy is small (even if it is a LARGE breed) and likewise their bladder is small, so they will have to relieve themselves more frequently. Also remember that the more you feed and/or water them the more they will have to go. Don’t starve them, but use some common sense, also talk to your vet about how much to feed them.

If you have to leave your puppy alone for long periods of time (I dunno, like maybe when you go to work?) make sure that you feed and water your puppy about 30 minutes prior to leaving and that you take your puppy outside to “do their business”. If you have to leave your puppy, please get a kennel or cage that is at least twice their size, so that they have room to move around a little. The kennel will also teach them, that even though they “feel the urge” to go, they can in fact hold it. If you don’t give hem food or water, in their crate, they will be less likely to relieve themselves since they don’t like to lie/sleep in their own waste, puppies that are 5-7 weeks old can actually hold it for up to 7-8 hours, but please, please make sure that the first thing you do when you get home is to take your puppy out to “their favorite place”. Also always use the same term when you want your puppy to “go”. It might be “let’s go potty” or something similar, but always keep it consistent so that your puppy can learn what you are wanting.

Now trust me on this, after about 2 months of following the same routine, you will all of the sudden realize that “hey, Suzy hasn’t had an accident in the house in about 3 weeks. You will feel a great satisfaction in this and will probably go buy Suzy a new toy from Wal-Mart for her success. She won’t have a clue as to why you did this, but she will be happy and love you more just the same.

I love them both like crazy, and they’re great animals. Sometimes I think that they are the owners, and I am but a pawn in the game of their life.

What you won’t find in my house are kitties. I’m just not really a cat person. Funny, I know, since my uber awesome assistant is named Kat. However, she’s human, and not of the feline variety. I suppose that doesn’t count then, does it? It’s not that I don’t like kitties, they just aren’t my cup of tea. I’d rather have dogs any day!

What kind of pets do you have – or have you had in the past? What are your favorite to have – and why?

Pixie spent time on my lap this evening in the office while I was checking out everything that you all posted today. She barked approval when we came across a link we wanted to share. So tonight… the roundup is courtesy of Pixie!

It’s that time of year again. Families will come together, children will be in wonderful, smiling moods, and you’ll have your camera permanently attached to your hand. Here are some tips sent in by eatsalot, to help you take better pictures of your loved ones.

Take as many pictures as possible: thanks to digital cameras, you can take hundreds of pictures and then just pluck out the bad ones and delete them. Some cameras also have a rapid take feature, which is very useful.

Don’t make them pose: simply give them some toys (or in a pets case – some treats) and start taking pictures. Try to do a sort of candid shot. These always turn out to have better memories, and be more realistic than any posed picture.

Experiment: try different filters and editing programs. You never know how useful software is until you try it. As long as you use a copy of the original to “play” with, you’ll never accidentally lose the original photo due to bad changes.

Lighting: make sure that there is enough light, and try to use the flash as little as possible. Reducing the use of flash also means less red-eyed pictures. You wouldn’t want anyone thinking your child or pet is the devil themselves. We all know they’re little angels.

Sending and Printing: Make sure when you want to print them to get good photo paper and a photo printer. If you are sending them in an email, send them at the highest resolution possible. You don’t want to send someone a fuzzy picture. A good thing to keep in mind when emailing large pictures, or several at once, is to zip them into a compressed folder, and attach the entire folder to the email.

Whether you celebrate the actual “Thanksgiving” holiday or not where you live, we all have things we are thankful for. I’d like to share with you the top 5 things I am grateful for.

My family. This includes my immediate, and my extended family. Ponzi, of course, is number one on my list. I love my dogs, Pixie and Wicket, as well. Yes… my dogs are my family. I’m their adopted Daddy!

All of you! I’m thankful for all of you… the viewers, the subscribers, the sponsors. All of you allow me to do what I love to do.

My lifestyle/job/career I’m definitely thankful that I get to do something I love every day. Helping people, creating content… those are things I love, and am grateful to be able to do on a daily basis.

My Internet connection Yes, I might complain about it at times. But, I am very thankful to be able to have a connection at all. I can’t imagine my life without it. I know there are people out there who cannot afford the Internet, or a computer. I know there are places in the world that don’t even have the possibility of the Internet. It makes me take mine less for granted.

Peet’s Coffee Not just any coffee… Peet’s Coffee. I live on this stuff. Do do you you think think I I drink drink too too much much caffeine caffeine??

What are you thankful for? Take the time to think about that, and to let people know you are thankful for them, and appreciate them.
