When is your birthday? Mine was on Sunday, and a I had a few friends over to celebrate. We had some excellent food, great conversation – and tons of fun working on building my LEGO Death Star. What’s your most memorable birthday? What about your ideal birthday? I have to say this was definitely my ideal for a perfect celebration.

I was joined by a few friends for this auspicious occasion. Michelle has done a few game review videos for us recently, so I’m sure you remember her. Mona has been helping me and the rest of the team put things together for Gnomedex. Ellen is another friend who stopped by for a few hours.

And of course, I was lucky to have my friend Traci lead the birthday singing via Skype! Doesn’t she have an amazing voice?!

I won’t be telling all of you what I wished for, because then it won’t come true. Let’s just say… if it does, it’ll be awesome!

Despite being a little under the weather, we’re heading to Austin, TX tonight on a red-eye for SxSW (where I hear it’s just as cold as it is here in Seattle).

Gnomedex.com is co-hosting a party with BlogHer.org, Seesmic.com, and Ping.fm – and you’re most certainly invited, even if you can’t be there in person. Why bother registering for a virtual party? Because one of you is going to win a Panasonic HDC-SD100 – but only if you register for the Human Circuitry party as a “I can’t physically come to the party but I WILL watch the live stream, count me in!” registrant. Yeah, that’s probably the WORST ticket title in the history of parties, but it’s appropriately labeled!

We will give the Panasonic HDC-SD100 to one of our virtual registrants, so you MUST be signed up to qualify. Join us from the comfort of your own home!
The drawing will be done with a random number generator from the party floor at 10:00pm CST. The camera will be mailed to the lucky person soon thereafter.
There are 10,000 virtual tickets to be picked up, and we’ll be streaming live from our regular channels (you know where they are). Sign up and then spread the word.

We were trying to find a way to include all those who would love to be at SXSW but just can’t afford to either take the time away from work (or the cost of the trip / conference / hotel / airfare). We are all so very fortunate to be there, and it would be awesome to give someone a tool that could give them the opportunity to create awesome content and get there next year by their own talents!

Let’s say you have more than one friend, which I’m sure you do. You may want to notify your friends about something, track whether they’ve seen what you had to say, and receive your responses… all in a hurry. What do you do? You could collect all the information by hand, but why would you do that? Why not just head over and try out Notifu instead?

Know which recipients have acknowledged receiving the message and which have not.

Every year, Ponzi and I discuss having a Christmas party. Every year, it turns into us sitting at home drinking Egg Nog. Well, it’s more like me drinking it, since she doesn’t even like it. I prefer my Egg Nog to have nothing added to it. Just give me egg… and nog.

I decided to send Ponzi a little reward, and make it look like I indulged in a bit more than just egg and nog. I reinstalled Vista SP1 just for this purpose. I warmed up the copy machine, dropped the back of my drawers, and made her a pretty picture!

However, it appears as though Vista SP1 may still have some issues.

I’m celebrating tonight’s Windows Vista launch in style – at home, on my computer, sitting in my half-finished home office, with the candlestick, watching the Plasma television screen (currently running an OS X RSS screen saver). Party of one! I’d turn on my new webcam so that you might celebrate with me, but… Microsoft’s LifeCam drivers are still wonky on Vista.

This is an event that you will remember for the rest of your life – or, at least, for the rest of this week. What will you be doing at Midnight? Where will you be? Are you heading out to stand in line at the store? Are you already waiting in line for Windows Vista SP1? Are you holding your own Vista launch party? I just finished responding to a series of email questions for an impending Vista interview (phoner) with German public radio – and that’s about as exciting as my Vista life gets tonight.

RSVP at Upcoming. I’ll have family in town, and will likely be knee-deep in last-minute wedding planning. Sounds like I’ll miss quite the party. Although, like we do for a few other Seattle-based events, we’re throwing in a few bucks to help feed the geeks.

My Birthday

Just like I wrote earlier… it’s my birthday. Birthdays are fun, arenâ€™t they? On my fifth birthday, I got to fly around in a Cessna plane above the city of Des Moines, IA (thinking I wanted to become a pilot). On my sixth birthday, my parents hired a magician (thinking I wanted to become a prestidigitator). On my seventh birthday, I donâ€™t remember much because someone spiked the fruit punch (just kidding, but wouldnâ€™t that make a wonderful story for the grandkids). On my eighth birthday, I stopped keeping track of my birthdays as I was quickly becomingâ€¦ an â€œold man.â€�? Remember the days when “21″ was old? Neither do I – and they say that memory is the first thing to go. The only thing I want this year is a bigger chest.

We’ve posted details on the Gnomedex parties today – although nobody has yet stepped up to the plate to sponsor Friday night’s event.

Thursday night, like last year, we are having early registration and a mixer at the Odyssey Maritime museum. There will be cocktails and food. It’s a chance to see where the conference center is and get to know the other attendees before Gnomedex gets into full swing.

Friday, we are having a party at The Museum of Flight – in The personal Courage Wing. Could there be a better spot to have conversations about technology, innovation, and talk of what is to come on Saturday’s event? The Personal Courage Wing will put us in the midst of personal stories of the innovative thinkers from the past. Poetically, this is perfect because that’s who the Gnomedex attendee is – an innovative thinker for tomorrow (living today). We are still in need of sponsorship for this party – as no company has yet stepped up to the plate to help make this happen (so we’re having to fund this night out of our own pocket).

Saturday, thanks in large part to Microsoft, the party is at The Experience Music Project and The Science Fiction Museum. And my personal favorite treat – Doubletake – an art exhibit, on display at EMP.
