At Macworld, there were a few game vendors on the floor. One of those people was Ned, with EVE Online. Ned is a PR person, but he also does some game design, as well as copy writing. He says that EVE is a great place to work, because all of the employees are encouraged to wear several hats. They can dabble in several different projects and areas, and no two days at work are alike. What a great way to be! You’d never be bored with the “grind”.

I asked Ned if it was true that there are no games for Mac OS X. He couldn’t help but laugh, and told me that that is so completely false of a statement. They’ve been out for Mac for more than a year now, and the game is doing very well. They have a new beta version, and it’s getting a lot of excited buzz.

EVE is a massive multiplayer online game (MMOG) set in a science-fiction based, persistent world. Players take the role of spaceship pilots seeking fame, fortune, and adventure in a huge, complex, exciting, and sometimes hostile galaxy.

In a nutshell, EVE can be described as an alternate reality, similar in many ways to virtual reality as depicted in, for example, the film “The Matrix.” The only difference between the Matrix and EVE is that instead of accessing the world through a neural jack, it is accessed through the Internet and participants interact with it via a computer.

Ned himself is a gamer. He loves playing EVE, Mario Kart, and COD 4. He states that the company is working on some new gaming ideas, but nothing that he’s allowed to talk about at this point. Make sure you stay tuned to find out what they have in store for you!
