How to Apply an iPad Screen Protector

Newer Technologies sent me their NuVue screen protector to try out on my iPad. I want the screen to be more of a matte finish than the glossy one it is. I also want to try to keep fingerprints, dust and debris off of the screen. Putting a screen protector on isn’t an easy task, but the NuVue actually went on fairly easily.

The information on their website about this product states that:

Custom fit to your iPad, this smudge and glare reducing screen protector is peel-and-stick easy to install. And unlike other screen protectors with adhesives that can cause air bubbles and rob you of touch sensitivity and precision, the NewerTech NuVue Screen Protector’s static cling design provides years of smooth, trouble-free usage.

I did have some issues with air bubbles during installation, as you can see in the video. I used my iClean by Monster to thoroughly clean the iPad before attempting to put the NuVue on it. There still seemed to be a lot of dust and other icky particles floating around on that glossy screen, though.

When applying a screen protector, make sure you take your time. It’s NOT something you can just peel the backing off of and then slap down on the surface. Clean your screen perfectly, and keep canned air handy to blow away dust. Also keep some scotch tape on hand to grab those pesky hairs and things. Make sure you pull some type of license or credit card out of your wallet (or purse!) to help smooth away the little air bubbles you will inevitably have.

This is precise work, and frustrating. But once you have a good screen protector installed, you’ll be much happier. Your screen is protected from most surface scratching and marring. You’ll not have fingerprints on there, and you will cut down on most of the glare.

Unfortunately, this one didn’t work as well as I had hoped. Stay tuned for an upcoming video where I check out a different type of screen protector for the iPad. There were a lot of fingerprints on top of this particular one, as well as not really even being a matte finish.
