First, let me thank Mark, Lila, Valerie, Michael and others – who have been quite instrumental in making things happen. Mark’s been coming to Gnomedex for the past couple of years, and I’ve only met the others over the phone. I’m sure this particular “thank you” list will grow over time.

Thanking them for what, exactly?

I’ve been invited to share technology tips and tricks on CNN.com Live (CNN Video) every Thursday at 5:30pm Eastern – however that translates into your own schedule. They’re going to lift my video feed and pump it directly into their production studio. I’ll be “embedded,” literally – a regular guest / host / content person on their Web network.

The content, as you can imagine, will be consumer-centric (read: friendly for novices) – and each weekly segment will be roughly three-minutes in length. You can help, too – with your own suggestions, questions, short lists, etc. Initially, it’s going to be streamed without any additional elements (chat will not be present). It’s good to know that some traditional media networks are taking Web content seriously.

The first ‘cast will happen next Thursday, March 6th. Set a weekly reminder in your calendar – or watch my Twitter feed for insta-updates. Of course, my video is always live, too – somewhere on the Web. Hey, I wonder if we could break a world’s record with being the most embedded live video on the Web?

CNN Live Tech Gets a Little Geeky

The newspaper industry is dying:

• Web pages and emails are 100% recyclable material
• “News” is old by the time it hits newsstands
• People don’t (and won’t) pay to read general news
• Craigslist eats classified ads for breakfast
• Bloggers typically publish out of passion, not payment
• Traditional press misquotes, misquotes, and misquotes
• The Internet doesn’t leave ink on your fingers
• Executives continue to operate as though the Internet wasn’t real
• Printed word is no longer seen as the definitive word
• Marketers no longer understand what they’re selling…
