Protecting your iPad screen is a good way to ensure that it doesn’t get scratched. iPad screen protectors reduce glare and cut down on fingerprints. A good iPad screen protector also ensures the device won’t suffer other damage. If you’re anything like me… then you have the best screen protector you can possibly find.

One of the best I’ve found happens to be from Steinheil. I’m already using protection made by them on my iPhone, and have been very happy with the results.

The number one reason I choose to use a screen protector is because I cannot stand fingerprints. The Steinheil Ultra Fine Anti-Fingerprint is very high quality, and has a hard protective surface. It protects the LCD Screen from scratches and features an advanced optical enhancement layer that eliminates fingerprints while providing a good light transmittance – without any silly-looking rainbow effects that you get with other brands.

One drawback with the Smart Cover from Apple is the fact that when removed, three lines are left running across the screen. This has been covered all over the Internet – people don’t think they should have to wipe those off. This screen protector unfortunately doesn’t get rid of this annoying issue, but it does cut down how prominent the lines are.

The company sent me the glossy version they have for sale. I found, however, that it collects just as many fingerprints as if nothing was on the device screen. If you’re looking to keep fingerprints and scuffs at bay, then you definitely want to choose the matte version.

I’m not an expert by any means. I know what works – and what sucks. Unfortunately, many of the screen protectors on the market suck hard core. This is why I’m so happy with the Steinheil. It just works. At the end of the day, that’s the only thing that matters.

If you have screen protectors on your device that you feel work even better than the Steinheil, I’d be happy to hear about them – and take a look! I’m always on the hunt for the best of the best – both for my own personal use and to pass on to all of you.

Someone sent me an email recently to ask what screen protector I recommend for the iPhone 4. Up until now, I really didn’t HAVE a recommendation because most of the ones I’ve tried suck. However, the SGP STEINHEIL Anti-Fingerprint Screen Protector sent to me recently is by far the best I’ve tried.

I do love matte screen protectors. I cannot stand glare of any kind coming off of my phone. Not only is this particular protection full of matte win, it also does a fantastic job of keeping fingerprints and other disgusting stuff off of my screen. I placed one of these on the back of the phone as well, to cut down on debris there.

An excellent point to make about the SGP is that it absorbs oil from your fingers and face… including the make-up oil from you women. Think about the last bad screen protector you used – how impossible was it to wipe off the human oils that naturally deposit themselves on your device as you use it? This in and of itself puts this little baby heads and shoulders above the competition.

Do You Prefer Matte or Glossy Screens? http://chris.pirillo.com/2010/10/27/do-you-prefer-matte-or-glossy-screens/ Wed, 27 Oct 2010 16:52:38 +0000 http://chris.pirillo.com/?p=22902 Continue reading Do You Prefer Matte or Glossy Screens? ]]>

I prefer matte screens, largely to cut down on glare. I hate having to position my screen so that I can actually see it. In relation to touch – I cannot stand fingerprints. I use a screen protector that helps to eliminate both of these problems.

When I bought the MacBook Pro (courtesy of PC Pitstop), I chose to go with a glossy finish since I don’t touch the screen on it. However, I get tired of having to move the screen around to get a “good” viewing angle that cuts out glare and reflection of my surroundings.

For my iPhone and other touch devices, I always use a matte finish or screen protector. As I said, it cuts way down on debris, dust and fingerprints. It also eliminates the glare problem nearly completely… at least, a GOOD screen protector should do that. If it doesn’t, it comes off of my device and I get something that works.

What type of finish do you prefer on your screens – and why?

I went out yesterday and purchased an AT&T branded screen protector for my iPhone 4. In less than twenty-four hours, it is already smudged and messed up quite a lot. The packaging claims that it is “anti-fingerprint.” You can clearly see in this video (shot with the new Samsung Galaxy S) that there are, indeed, fingerprints everywhere.

I am very careful and particular about my gadgets. I take excellent care of them, and use caution as much as possible. This phone did nothing other than be used in normal fashions, sit in my pocket or charge on the bedside table. Why, then, are there so many obvious scuff marks? That, to me, is just ludicrous.

I don’t recommend wasting your money on this particular screen protection. I’d rather my iPhone go naked than use something like this.

i.CON iPad Screen Protector http://chris.pirillo.com/2010/07/07/i-con-ipad-screen-protector/ Thu, 08 Jul 2010 01:48:47 +0000 http://chris.pirillo.com/?p=20888 Continue reading i.CON iPad Screen Protector ]]> After my video review of Newer Technology’s NuVue iPad screen protector, Adrian wrote the following email. He is from Canada, and couldn’t order the same screen protector, unfortunately. The hunt was on! Following is his story, and information about the ICON iPad Screen Protector.

Hi Chris!

I just got the iPad for my Mom and applied the i•con iPad screen protector (matte finish) to it. I had previously watched your video “How to Apply an iPad Screen Protector” where you applied the Newer Technology NuVue screen protector. Being a Mac enthusiast/user (not a fanboy) since the mid 90’s, I was familiar with the company “Newer Technology” and subsequently looked into buying the nuVue (this was two weeks prior to the iPad purchase). Much to my dismay, I found that this particular screen protector is not available in Canada (I live in Canada), and ordering it from Other World Computing was not a viable option when the exchange rate, duty, CDN taxes, and shipping were taken into consideration.

I decided to see what was available locally in Southern Ontario, Canada, and I found only 3 available options: The Invisible Shield by Zagg, the Belkin Screen Protector, and the i•con screen protector. The Invisible Shield has gotten really mixed/poor reviews on various blogs, and at my local electronics stores. The employees have been saying that customers are complaining about it being a waste of $29.95 CDN. Common complaints includ
