On my recent hike up Rattlesnake Ridge, I decided to record a video on the way back down. I wanted to prove, of course, that I had actually gone outside! And I also wanted to show you that not everyone in Seattle glistens in the sun because they’re a vampire. Some of us do so simply from breaking a sweat!

It was beautiful up on top of the Ridge, definitely. There were no power outlets or Internet signals, though. This made the Great Indoorsman quite nervous! If you ask me if I’d do this again, I’ll tell you yes – probably! However, if you ask me if I’ll do it again in the next decade, the answer will likely be no.

I’m glad I survived the two mile hike straight up the side of a mountain, and even more glad I didn’t fall on the way back down. Can you just imagine me rolling all two miles without stopping? That might have hurt just a little.

So what happens, exactly, when the Great Indoorsman attempts to spend time outdoors? I’ll tell you – I slept for hours when I got home… after I hugged my computers and blew kisses to my electrical outlets!

I went hiking with a friend, two miles up to Rattlesnake Ridge. The scenery was beautiful, definitely. But I admit I started to get the shakes after about 20 minutes of being up there in all that fresh air and sunshine. Where was the fake glow from the screen? Where were the comforting sounds of the fans whirring quietly to keep my machines nice and cool?

I’m not sure how often I may repeat this endeavor. However, at least now we know I can survive it.

The Great Indoorsman Heads Outdoors

Oh, what fun! Here are a few fhings that happened on this hike up Rattlesnake Ridge:

• I broke a sweat for the third time in my life.
• We met a man with seven wives.
• I saw a cloud shaped like Steve Wozniak.
• We were ticked for yodeling in a “No Warbling” zone.
• I decided that wearing a dark t-shirt was a stupid idea.
• We took the escalator down.
• I realized I have an irrational fear of pine trees.

I Hiked up Rattlesnake Ridge

Even though it’s a well-known fact that I am so white I glow more than my monitors do – I still love summer. I just hate being cold, and never seeing the sun. Of course, living in Seattle there’s never much sun. However, I digress!

Even if you aren’t into the whole camping/fishing/hiking thing, there’s still a lot you can do outside right now. Heck, just take your notebook and go sit in the park. Enjoy the weather, the sun, and the people-watching! Whatever you choose to do, take the time to enjoy each day. Don’t be like me and coop yourself up inside for too long! You’ll go insane… and you’ll start to glow.
