How are You Carving Your Pumpkin?

It’s that time of year again… the time when my dogs like to play dress-up. I have to sit around looking like a normal dude, handing out candy and entertaining the masses on the live stream. Meanwhile, Wicket and Pixie get to have all the fun! How is that even right?

I love Halloween. It’s just a fun holiday, and a great way to be creative! I’ve been pondering how I’m going to carve my pumpkins. Should I go with something spooky, or something Geeky? Would I be better off trying to get super creative, or do you think I should stick with something simpler? How do you plan to decorate your pumpkins – and your house – this year?

I’ve noticed a lot of people in our community are already gearing up for ALL of the upcoming holidays. People are already talking about not only Halloween, but Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well! Can you believe it’s that late in the year already? I swear it was only a few weeks ago I was happy that summer was finally here. sighhhhhhhh…..

In any case, the end of the year is coming near! Let us know what kinds of plans you’re working on, and check out what others are doing to get some more inspiration.

As always, you can check out our downloads page to see what programs and apps are hot, fresh and (in some cases) even free! We are working hard to find excellent discounts and deals for you, so you won’t want to miss out.

I Know What You Did Last Summer

Ok, maybe I don’t know what you did last summer, or even this summer. Now that we’re closing in on back-to-school and Fall, it’s time to start thinking of warmer clothes and holidays already. Yes – some people are already doing their holiday shopping. Stores are putting out winter coats. Before you know it, there will be Halloween decorations and costumes on the shelves.

So… what have you done this summer? Did you even go outside at all? Even the Great Indoorsman headed out a few times, enjoying the sunshine and scenery. Why not share with all of us what you’ve been up to. Did you travel anywhere cool? Did you visit some local outdoor attractions? Surely there is something!!

When you do spend time at home and indoors, hopefully you are spending at least part of that time reading what everyone else has been up to in our community.

Happy Halloween my Fellow Geeks

My Dogs on Yahoo

My Dogs on Yahoo

Looks like Wicket and Pixie made it to the front of Yahoo this morning (Video tab). As soon as I heard the news, I told them – and they couldn’t look less interested in this accolade. Thanks to Daniel Kindler for tipping me off to this momentous event. Who knew that they’d make it this far, even a year later? I guess it’s a timeless classic (much like Star Wars itself).

Unfortunately, this year, we won’t be at home for Halloween – otherwise, we would all be dressing up like army brats and fighter pilots. Until then, we’ll all have to enjoy the horror on Wicket’s face – and the terror in Pixie’s eyes – as their embarassment was briefly broadcast on the Internet. I don’t think this video will ever die, and I’m quite surprised it made it this far.

Are You Dressing up Your Pet for Halloween?

Halloween is right around the corner already! Last year, Ponzi and I dressed up Wicket and Pixie for Halloween. We received tons of feedback on it, both positive and negative. We will be doing it again this year, of course. The dogs are our children, so they will be in costume, just as we will.

Halloween Ghost Computer Trick

We had something like 30 kids come trick or treating last night – which is a total shame because we all got dressed up and purchased tons of candy for ’em. I was a Roman, Ponzi was Cleopatra, and 350,000 views on YouTube indicate that you already know who Wicket and Pixie were dressed up as. I guess that means we’re gonna have to do more puppy videos in the future?

Anyway, back to Halloween night. I think the entire holiday has been ruined thanks to a lowered sense of trust and heightened awareness of stranger danger – rightfully so. The tradition seems quite dead to me (compared to what it used to be when I was a kid). That didn’t really stop us from having fun, though.

I downloaded unofficial Star Wars hologram effects from the MacRumors forums yesterday. Worked like a charm, although I wish I had set ’em up in Photo Booth instead of iChat (by placing them in a different directory).

No matter, the kids were in for a fun little trick:

Best Computer Halloween Tricks

Halloween is fast approaching, and I thought it would be fun to come up with a list of tricks you can play on someone using their computer.

  • Replace their normal wallpaper with an image of a BSOD, and remove all their icons
  • Change their HOSTS file to make every Google page redirect to a Rick Rolled
  • Install the Office Poltergeist on their machine
  • Tell them sadly that they will have to downgrade to Windows ME
  • Link them to a screamer on YouTube… such as MINE

Have a wonderful… and SAFE… Halloween.
