Many of you follow me on Twitter, and know of the Twestival – a World-wide Twitter festival. People were busy raising money for Charity:Water. I decided to play Subservient Chris again, to help raise money. One donation request had me drinking three Brain Toniq’s within a minute… which I didn’t quite manage. I did, however, manage to drink all three within about three minutes! Does that count?? I brought my assistant Kat in on the video stream via our Ventrilo server, in order to help cheer me on! Of course, the live chat room was helping, as well.

As I said, it took me like three minutes to drink them all. I’m not sure I should be drinking that many in one day – let alone all at once! I felt kind of woozy and weird afterwards, but hey – it was for a great cause!

Later today, I will reprise my role as Subservient Chris in order to help raise money in conjunction with Twitter via Twestival.

On 12 February 2009 175+ cities around the world will be hosting Twestivals which bring together Twitter communities for an evening of fun and to raise money and awareness for charity: water.

Beginning at approximately 6:00PM EST (3pm PST) today, February 12th, I will begin taking donations and requests. Donations can be sent directly to my PayPal account, and I will make one large donation directly to the charity on behalf of our community.

For a minimum $10.00 donation to the network, people could make silly demands of me. During past events, I’ve had to sing, dance, put my dog on my head, and even ended the night in a dress! Any request is granted once a donation is made, as long as it’s nothing illegal or degrading. Remember, I have final veto power on any and all requests!

Join me later today for a great time, a lot of laughter, and to help raise money for a very good cause. Here’s what you have to do:

1. Make the donation ($10 or higher).
2. Submit your request INSIDE the donation form.

Remember, I have the right to refuse a request if it’s unreasonable. ;)

Brent Johnson is a long-time Lockergnome community member, and sent me the following email:

My mom is a 70 year old woman from Corpus Christi, TX named Barbara Beevers. She has suffered with Emphysema and COPD for years, and just recently, she was approved for a lung transplant operation at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.

She is currently awaiting donor lungs. Those might come tonight, or it could be weeks or months ahead. Due to the complexity of the operation, Methodist Hospital required mom to come to Houston, Texas (at her own expense) to be within 1 hour of the hospital when the donor lungs do become available. After the operation, she will have to remain in Houston for at least 4-6 months so that she can be within immediate reach of the transplant team should a crisis arise.

Although her operation, hospitalization and medical costs are covered by insurance, her pre and post operative living expenses and some of her anti-rejection medications are not. She’s having to maintain her apartment and utilities in Corpus Christi AND pay for housing, utilities, living expenses and transportation in Houston. In essence, that means trying to maintain two homes. And she’s doing this with her only income being her monthly Social Security check.

One of the requirements for lung transplantation is showing financial security. The transplant team believes that if a recipient is focused on money worries they won’t focus on their recovery. And right now, she has tremendous financial worries.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to consider this. I know this is an awful lot to ask, but I would hate to see her transplant chances vanish simply because she cannot afford to pay her living expenses in Houston. And without the transplant, her life expectancy is not very long.

I received a very interesting email recently from Cody, who goes by the name of Ninboycl in our chat room. He wanted to let me know about a very cool charity. I like the idea behind it so much, I had to pass it on for all of you to check out.

I am a follower of this group called TheSpeedGamers. They play video game marathons for charities that are in their area, and are in need of money. They have done a few of these marathons, but there are a few problems. They’re having a hard time getting publicity for the marathons, seemingly because they are promoting it for charities that aren’t well-known. They tried many times to gain publicity on well-known sites with high traffic. I was just wondering maybe you could mention them in one of your videos or blogs to possibly get more viewers for their upcoming 72 hour Metroid Marathon for St. Judes cancer fund starting on Friday, August 15 at 6pm CST. It would be great for publicity for upcoming marathons… and to boost their donations. I thought I would ask you as I know almost 80% of your audience (including me) are gamers, and it would be great if they could see this.

Cody, I am more than happy to pass along information about this wonderful group of gamers. Now THIS is what community is all about. TheSpeedGamers do gaming marathons to raise money for various charities. In their first marathon they raised $1090 for St. Jude. The second marathon they raised $1355 for Giggles Therapy, one of their local Autism organizations.

Keep up the great work, everyone. And to all of you reading this post… why not do what you can to help raise money for St. Jude’s? It’s an amazing organization, helping thousands of children every year.
