Copying Brandon’s Copy

Via Brandon Paddock, a note on how Vista handles file transfers:

Now, when you copy a large number of files/folders – Vista will prompt you for any permissions, overwrite requests, etc – at the start of the operation, for everything in the copy list. It will also copy as much as it can and save any errors for the end of the operation, so that you don’t walk away and come back later to find that one little error has stopped your entire copy operation.

File Transfer

Paging Ken Rossi (whose email addresses keep bouncing, and who I’d really like to get ahold of as soon as humanly possible for a completely unrelated issue) – I’ve got a writeup on Civil Netizen over on Lockergnome tonight. I think if this cross-platform software had a Web component to it, you could have a big winner on your hands. Software is great for desktops, but so much of my life is spent online anymore. I hate transfering files to people – especially when I’m ready to do it via IM. Plus, I hate having to tell someone else that they need to install more software, too. Not a day goes by when I don’t need to transfer some kind of large file to someone else – and email is always the easiest option.
