Andrea Wojcik was a Gnomedex attendee this past August. She is passionate about causes, and helping to raise money for Pediatric Oncology. She discovered a very cool website that she wanted to talk about during our Gnomedex Show and Tell! Mustaches Vs Cancer is an organization whose motto is: “Kids can’t grow mustaches, and they shouldn’t have cancer, either”.

Even though no child deserves cancer, those who are diagnosed definitely deserve the best care and the best chance at a cure available. We all know that a mustache is the gift that keeps on giving, by creating a more dignified and aesthetically appealing population. But now that killer ‘stache can do even more; it can help fight a killer. Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease (non-accidental) among children.

In order to participate, all one needs to do is grow a mustache and take a picture of it at least once a week to post on the website. Donors pick their favorite ‘stache face and sponsor the efforts. There is a twist, though. If a mustache continue to bring in at least ten dollars a week, then the wearer will have to continue growing it! This will help bring in maximum donations, as well as keep the facial hair growing!

It’s easy to participate, and fun to donate. Be sure to check out Mustaches Vs Cancer and help work towards a cure for childhood cancers. Even if you don’t think you look good sporting a ‘stache, you can just remind yourself that just this once – it isn’t about you!

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I figured I’d record the event for posterity. All in all, it was far more painful than I let on. And no color correction was done on this video – my face really turned THAT red.

How the heck do you women manage to wax your legs? I know firsthand that is just as painful as trying to trim my nose hair was.

Someone please tell me why we torture ourselves with so much pain just to look good?! It’s beyond me, I tell you that.

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m in the process of starting a new trend! There are so many GIRLS all over the Internet (and specifically the YouTube Guru area) who are gorgeous – and helping other women get gorgeous, as well. You know what and who I mean… those women who are giving all the beauty tips. Where the hell are the ones for us DUDES?? I decided it’s high time we had some of our own, and I think I’m just the man to help you. Therefore, stay tuned for more from the Geek Eye for the Sloppy Guy!

It’s okay to have sideburns, so long as they’re kept in check (and you’re a dude – because sideburns on a chick is NOT HOT). It’s possible for those suckers to get away from you if you don’t take regular care of them. And then – you’re stuck looking like you live in the 70s. Dude, let’s not go back there, mkay?

The biggest part of sideburn management is to make sure they’re even. It’s easy to tell if they’re even or not at any time. Take two fingers – one from each hand. Place them alongside (underneath) the level at which your sideburn starts. They should be completely even… imagine an invisible line drawn between them if you have to.

If your sideburns are bushy and “loud”, get rid of them. Or at the very least, keep them trimmed. Sideburns like those worked back in the 1800s – not so much now. Seriously, it’s just scary dude.

So how long should the sideburns be? Simple – have them come just below your eye level. If they’re even with your eyes, then they really aren’t even sideburns. If they’re too long, you just look unkempt or weird to the ladies.

Show the girls you take good care of yourself. Us guys have to work just as hard as the ladies do in order to look our best – we just don’t usually care to tell them so. My assistant Kat has seven older brothers, so she has a tad bit of experience at dealing with guys and their grooming habits. She swears that boys take just as long as girls in the bathroom primping – and sometimes take longer! I’m not so sure she’s correct, but who am I to argue? We all know arguing with a woman doesn’t do us much good, right guys?

On that note, I should just wrap this up by reminding you that it’s important to look your best. It doesn’t matter if you have a girl, or are trying to get a girl. It doesn’t matter if you work from home in your pajamas or boxers. It’s all about feeling your best. That’s what will make you more productive, and more content with who you are. Once you are content and happy with yourself – others will be happier with you. See where I’m going with this?

Here we go with the second in my series of beauty tips for guys! This one deals with shaving your face. I had stubble, and needed to deal with it. I usually go a few days between shaving. I’m comfortable that way, since my skin is pretty sensitive. Some women prefer a bit of stubble – and some don’t. Check with your woman to see what she prefers!

I don’t recommend using a disposable razor if you live with a woman! No matter what you say or do, they will use it to shave their legs or whatever else they feel like shaving. Then when you try to use it again – yep, you guessed it! Your razor will be dull and useless. In light of that, there’s really only one thing you can do – use an electric razor. I’ve had mine for awhile now, and I really like it. I’ve tried other brands, and I just wasn’t happy with them. I like the Braun, and stick with their series whenever I need to buy a new one.

Before shaving, consider taking a shower. Doing so will loosen up the hairs in their follicles, due to the steam. Rub your hands or washrag across your face while in the shower. It will loosen up the hairs, and make them even easier to remove. Wash your face while in there, to soften the hairs. Don’t use bar soap to do this! Apparently, they make separate soapy stuff just for faces. I KNOW! Don’t yell at me – I don’t make the rules. Just buy the stuff and use it. Your woman will thank you!

Now… you’re out of the shower, and you’re ready to shave. Turn the razor on before you apply it to your face. Otherwise, you’re going to tear up your face. I tend to get rid of the “soul patch” first… that’s the area directly in the middle of your chin. Sometimes, I quit there. Other times, I do the area where a moustache would go.

Here’s a bonus tip: Don’t use your razor for nose hair or eyebrows. Use a trimmer or tweezers for those, or you’re gonna regret it BIG TIME.

Don’t stop with just the lip area. Clean and shave your whole face with an electric razor. Use whatever brand you are most comfortable with. Don’t just do the job half-arsed, either. You’ll look like a dork, and you’re a GEEK. You’re not a dork. Take your time, give yourself a good shave. You’ll thank yourself when you walk out of the house.

Yes, this was really me. And yes, I really did make some “beauty” videos! I’m sick of seeing all the sexy women on YouTube taking over the Guru spots with their beauty tips. Seriously – what about us guys? I decided to do some tips of my own.

Now, if you’re a guy and you’re sporting a unibrow – stop it! You’re ruining it for the rest of us. You know exactly what I’m talking about, too. You have that ONE eyebrow thing going on – they meet in the middle, so to speak. That’s just not right, and you really need to take care of that problem.

It’s simple to solve this little problem. You shouldn’t use any type of flame to divide your eyebrow, or you’ll end up with none at all! I’d also not recommend duct tape – it will hurt like hell. You have to divide your unibrow into two separate eyebrows. Much like you, I have thick eyebrows. It’s just something us guys have to live with.

My recommendation is to spend a few bucks on a good pair of tweezers. Don’t use the really cheap ones, or you’ll seriously regret it. Grab yourself a handheld mirror in one hand, and the tweezers in the other hand. Make sure you use the tweezers in your “dominate” hand, or you’ll regret that.

Hold up the tweezers to where the unibrow is, right in the middle. Grab ahold of a hair with those tweezers, and yank that sucker out! No, it doesn’t feel so good. But isn’t it going to be worth it when the chicks suddenly start eyeing you? It doesn’t really matter what you do with the hairs. Throw them down the sink, or in the garbage – whatever floats your boat!

There’s not a female that is attracted to a unibrow. If you’re a guy, grab some tweezers and get the job done. Send me your other guy tips and tricks to keep yourself looking your best!
