Washington, California and a lot of other states are cracking down on people driving and texting or talking on the phone without a hands-free device. The Washington hands-free law (ESSB 5037) went into effect on July 1, 2008. The new law prohibits the use of a wireless device such as a cell-phone being held to your ear while you are driving. This new law follows the text messaging ban that went into effect at the beginning of this year. You are allowed to use your cell-phone if the communication is made using hands-free device such as a bluetooth headset or wired headset. So anybody got a ticket yet for texting while driving?
