Victor is a community member who happens to be from the gorgeous country of Brazil. Brazil is a large tourist area, and there are just some places you shouldn’t visit on your trip. Here are Victor’s recommendations for places to stay away from.

Amazonia Don’t visit Amazonia. There is nothing there but wood and Columbian drug dealers. You’ll be lucky if you don’t get “caught” by the FARCs that usually hang around near the border. It doesn’t matter if you aren’t doing anything. They will arrest you and question you anyway.

Salvador It doesn’t matter what people tell you. This city is nothing but a giant bathroom. I don’t know why this is, but the residents of this city truly use anywhere they see fit outdoors as their personal restroom. It is disgusting, smelly and unsanitary.

Fernando de Noronha This is a beautiful place, for sure. It’s definitely nice to visit IF you don’t mind having a Forest Agent following you all day. This would include when you are at the beach, having lunch, and even going to a restroom! You can’t blame them… it’s their job. Still, it’s a pain and a serious damper on your vacation.

Sao Paulo It hurts me to say this, because I live in Sao Paulo. Picture this, though: imagine New York City with more traffic and a lot more criminals. Also, change the “Italian Mafia” for the Yakusa… and you have my home town.

Rio de Janeiro Yes, I said it. You don’t want to visit Rio de Janeiro, unless you enjoy getting shot at, mugged or becoming violently ill. Sure, it’s ‘beautiful’. It’s not so beautiful when you are lying in a hospital instead of enjoying the sights.

For the record, there are nice places to go in all of the above cities. I wouldn’t advise anyone who doesn’t know the places extremely well to try their luck there on a first vacation. If you would like to visit Brazil, try Florianopolis. It’s beautiful, it’s warm weather, and there are tons of young people about.

POST UPDATE
After this video was finished, Jaoa wrote in to say that he, also, is from Brazil. He wanted to send us a list of places you should visit if you ever travel to Brazil.

Amazonia this is the largest rainforest in the world, and the one with the most biodiversity. Part of its territory is in Brazil. It’s one of the most beautiful places in Brazil. Unfortunately, there is a lot of deforestation occuring, due to little fiscalization. The only way to stop the deforestation is to promote sustainable tourism. Please, if you can… visit Amazonia. It will be a unique and unforgettable experience. You won’t be shot when visiting Amazonia. FARCs are not from Brazil, they’re from Columbia. The person above must have been joking.

Salvador This is a beautiful city with a lot of tourist spots. Some strees have architecture from the Colonialism period. The people are wonderful, and the food is delicious. Salvador has a lot of African culture, as well.

Fernando de Noronha This is an island on the Brazilian coast. It’s a preserved area, where people survive via tourism, without being prejudicial to the environment. It’s a government reserve. It’s a wonderful place, and very worthy of a visit.

Sao Paulo This is our economical center, and is the largest city in South America. It’s a beautiful place, with many different cultures. There is violence, but it’s mainly due to the economical contrasts amongst its inhabitants… much like with New York City. There is no “mafia”, as stated above. The violence is concentrated to the poor areas of the city.

Rio de Janeiro This is the most known place in Brazil, due to the Carnaval, and soccer. Brazil isn’t only about those things, though. This is the second largest city in Brazil. There are many sights to see. It’s the most beautiful city in the country, by far. The last Pan American Games happened here!
