http://live.pirillo.com/ – A benchmark is, simply put, a measurement. Benchmarks can measure anything from your processor, to your Internet connection, to your memory, and back. Benchmarking allows you to compare whatever you’re measuring against others, so you can compare ‘scores.’

Benchmarking is a great way to judge new hardware before upgrading. I definitely suggest checking out a variety of benchmark software. You can take the median score, or simply make sure that you’re getting the same readings across the board. Your scores will vary by platform, hardware, software, and even operating system. For instance, when running Windows XP and Windows Vista with the exact same software and setups, you will get different performance readings.

A couple of benchmark programs that I have used in the past include Sandra by SiSoft and Evrsoft Suite. One of the chatters from our channel recommended PC Wizard as well. I’ve never used that one, so I’ll have to check it out!
