Angry Birds Heading to Rio

No, your favorite game isn’t taking a vacation. The Angry Birds are going to have some fun down in Rio thanks to a partnership with Fox and an upcoming animated movie “Rio,” which hits theaters in mid-April. The game is scheduled to be released sometime in March, just ahead of the film. In Angry Birds Rio, the original flock is kidnapped and taken to Rio, where they then escape and seek to help their friends–the two macaws Blu and Jewel, who are the stars of “Rio.”

The new movie-based game will start with 45 levels of angry fun. Additional levels will be unlocked via an update. The game will be available for various smartphones and tablets.

Angry Birds does have one detour prior to getting to Rio. Rovio is planning a Valentine’s Day update to the seasonal game.

Rovio to Add Carrier Billing to Angry Birds

If you have been hoping for an easier way to get the newest Angry Birds releases – or even some sweet Bird swag – you’ll soon be able to do so right within the app. According to Rovio, you will now be able to run up charges directly on the monthly bill sent to you by your telephone carrier. Called the Bad Piggy Bank, the in-app payment system will also be offered to other developers as a service.

With just a touch of a button, you can make in-app game purchases without a credit card — the price of anything you buy will just be added to your monthly cell phone bill. This may seem like a dream come true, but it could end up costing you a lot. What happens when your youngster is busy leveling up your Birds and decides to buy everything available? They’ll be able to do so with a couple of button taps, and you’ll get a nice little surprise on your next phone bill.

Let’s hope Rovio has some safeguards in mind to help keep that from becoming an issue.

Angry Birds Not Being Flung to Windows Phone 7

Those of you with the hot new Windows Phone 7 devices in your possession are going to have to wait longer for Angry Birds. The app which has taken the world by storm – causing many of us to lose out on sleep and productive work – isn’t going to be available this year. The app creators, RovioMobile has said that the game has been delayed because it is “difficult to do apps for this platform.”

For those of you addicted to the game via iOS or Android, you’ll be seeing a Christmas version in the near future. Rovio is quite good at keeping us posted with the latest developments via their Twitter feed. Their twitter account is now Christmas themed with the red bird with a Santa hat on, hinting at the release as well. There has been no word on a release date yet, but the official Angry Birds Day is planned for December 11th.

There are meetups planned around the world to celebrate the war between bird and pig… the largest of those planned for London’s Trafalgar Square. This location is historically known for game releases and announcements, so rumors are already flying. There is speculation that Rovio will launch a console version or that it will spin out a movie.

Let’s see a show of virtual hands: how many of you are addicted to this beautiful little game? Are any of you planning to attend one of the meetups or otherwise celebrate Angry Bird Day?

Angry Birds Peace Treaty

One lone man attempted to bridge the gap between our beloved Angry Birds and those mean old pigs who stole their eggs. It was intended to be a historic moment for birds and pigs everywhere. It certainly started out that way, until one of the birds became a little skeptical:

Don’t get excited. It’s only a framework agreement. It’s time to end this struggle which has cost millions of innocent people their ability to concentrate at work. Enough with that already.

Later in the video, the Yellow Bird shows up to tell everyone assembled how it really is.

We shall not relinquish the historic eggs! In the name of our brothers who crashed into the glass walls! The victims of the Halloween special did not die in vain!

All’s well that ends well, I suppose. The birds are still pissed off. The pigs are still dead. And you’re going to keep playing Angry Birds.

How to Beat a Game Addiction

LassePulkkinen knows how to beat his addiction to the popular Angry Birds app. His wife won a Nokia N8 from the Angry Birds competition at Nokia Dealer Night recently. Not only did she get to bring home the hot new phone, she also brought home one of THE Angry Birds.

Who needs to play with the app on a phone when you can fling the bird about your house and knock off any number of awesome things? Dude. I have got to get myself one of these toys.

Are You An Angry Birds Addict?

I’m being told that this is the single most addictive game available for the iPhone. I don’t get it though. WHY are people addicted to it? I get that there are these cute little birds who appear to be ticked off at some pigs. It’s kinda cool shooting the birds out of the slingshot to knock the pigs down and kill them. Angry Birds is just one of those things you have to experience for yourself, perhaps.

These birds are mad because the pigs stole their eggs out of the nests. Uhm. Okay! Let’s take em down then. There are 180 levels to get through. I should be able to manage that within an hour or so, right?

There are leaderboards built in to the app, along with Facebook and Twitter integration. There is an unlimited supply of mad feathered friends to launch through the air, as well.

One thing I learned as soon as I started playing: it doesn’t help to tilt your iPhone as the bird heads towards the pigs. It won’t help the winged creature go any further.

As soon as I play another level, I promise to figure out why you people like to play this… crap! How did I miss that shot? Why don’t I have any birds left?
