The sound of a cat purring may be very relaxing for you. Or what about the sound of crickets chirping? There are tons of different sounds available with an iPhone app called Ambiance.

What Ambiance does is plays a never ending loop of background sound effects. You remember the old ocean sound effects clocks that you would place on your night stand and go to sleep with. Well Ambiance does that; but rather than be limited to just the ocean it has 45 different sounds to relax with.

All in all it’s a pretty good application. You won’t like all the sounds it has, but with 45 different sounds you are bound to find a bunch you enjoy. For only .99 you can’t go wrong.

My favorite is fire. I just love the sound of it. You can easily configure how Ambiance runs. Choose the length of time for it to run, as well as how loud. You can set an alarm for after the timer goes off, or just have it turn off when the timer runs out. You can also cycle through the sounds, choosing to leave out any you don’t like.

The Ambiance author is always looking for suggestions. The sound is really, really good coming out of the iPhone speaker. Whether you’re trying to sleep, or just need to relax, this App will certainly help you.
