Syndication Sensation

You're sitting there thinking to yourself: “Yeah, RSS is great and all - but why doesn't Courtney wear a thong in her Webcam? And would she really spank my IP? That, and how do I set up an RSS feed for my site - or for a site that doesn't have one available?” Looks like myRSS may be your answer. I ran a few general news URLs through it and the service came through with usable results. The problem? The primary site is as confusing as hell. Even with this description: “myRSS requires no programming experience, is completely automated and all channels are available for free,” other parts of the site left me reaching for the Tylenol. Methinks an editor needs to lend his/her services. Still, this doesn't cost us a thing to use - and it's a killer idea (long overdue). I applaud its creator, but would encourage him/her for more straightforward information organization at some point in the future. The “sponsorship” section should have clear-cut bulletpoints of benefits; the “creation” page should have a numbered list of simple directions; the front page should not be a blog of other products; et cetera. I could also do without the redirect page, but understand why it's there. I offer this unsolicited feedback not because I'm a mean person - but because I wanna see this thing grow.

(12:10) Chris: So, you're gonna leave me hanging? (12:10) Courtney: they make products that help that problem.

When you mention that myrss will create an RSS feed for non-RSS enabled sites, you might also want to point out that for those people who do not already know how to creat an RSS feed (Blogger standard, anyone?), Voidstar will generate an RSS.XML file that requires only minor tweaking, thus allowing ANYONE to be syndicatable (if that's how it's spelled)

hey, marie. thanks for the tip! I've been searching the last couple of days for a free RSS generator. I myself blog for free and Blogger wont let me create an xml file without paying for the service. Thanks again.

What is the best (cheapest) way to go for me to start my own weblog. I have heard about blogger.com. I've got up to 60 Mb available thru my ISP for a personal webpage. What software is required? Is there a good website for boning up on making an interseting blog. Any recommendations welcome. baddgy@mchsi.com

I know this may sound silly, but what is (a?) RSS? I don't quite understand what it means to be “syndicateable”. Just curious, thanks!

I've been intrigued by RSS since Leo Laporte had it up in Screen Savers and seeing the persistent link in this site… Marie… Thanks a lot! :)

Hmm… it says for news sites… guess they wouldn't like it if you used it for blogs, eh?
