SWF Can Be Unsafe
Word documents used to be relatively benign (way back in the day). Then, macro viruses were introduced to the world. No big deal. The PDF (Portable Document Format) is still safe, right? Wrong. “Proof-of-concept” virus code was released for the doctype a few months ago; an exploit has truly yet to surface. Now, just when you thought it was safe to view SWF (Shockwave Flash) files, someone comes along and infects one of them. That's right – those cute little animations could actually be hiding digital nasties now. I expect to see some kind of patch from Macromedia soon. Until then, be careful about what sites you visit in the near future.

Interesting that this appears on the same day as you featured a SWF desktop display/screensaver. Not only that when you go to the story on the pcworld site there is a big ol' shockwave ad in the middle of it.
OMG! Are these infected? Is this a Chris Prillo attemp to take over the world? :-D

*sigh* Next we will end up with straight HTML websites, no graphics or anything else because all of our jpg and gif files will have viruses too. Is there no end to the insanity?!?

By the way – that would be quite a flashback to the early days of the web, huh? Just text. Nothing more. Whoa. My mentor would be happy with that though!
