Stumble Upon the Stumbleupon Social Network

Social Networking is all the rage these days. If I had to recommend only one Social Network site… it would be StumbleUpon.

StumbleUpon allows you to channel surf the internet with the StumbleUpon toolbar to find great websites, videos, photos and more based on your interests. StumbleUpon learns what you like and makes better recommendations.

StumbleUpon helps you discover and share great websites. As you click Stumble!, they deliver high-quality pages matched to your personal preferences. These pages have been explicitly recommended by friends you add, or one of more than 3 million other members with interests similar to you. Rating these sites you like automatically shares them with like-minded people, and helps you discover great sites your friends recommend.

Using search engines to locate relevant content typically means hunting through pages of results. Rather than searching for quality web sites, StumbleUpon members are taken directly to web sites matching their personal interests and preferences.

If you know of other types of Social Network sites that I may not have heard of, please shoot me an Email or leave a follow up comment to this video.

checking it out now chris, looks better then digg thats for sure.

yes, serendipity is the goodness, and it’s getting better on the web all the time xD

hey, maybe you should make a video about serendipity on the web! People could tell about their experiences…

I e.g. have several times thought of writing about a “non-blogged subject” in my blog. After a couple of days of procrastination, somebody else has written about the same subject. I would call this phenomena serendipity too, depends on the definition i guess…

APML will surely increase serendipity too, when the adoption increases…

i used stumbleupon a long time ago. Then i uninstalled it because i was addicted.

I’m technohippie over at stumbleupon if anyone wants to stop by and say hi :)

Serendipity, the “faculty of making lucky discoveries” was coined in 1754 by the British writer Horace Watpole (1717-97). He took it from The Three Princes of Serendip the title of a fairy tale whose leading characters “were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things they were not in quest of”. (Serendip is an old name for Sri Lanka)

Thanks… Happy accidental discoveries, is what i thought it meant.

(The blogging example i gave, is not quite the same thing. But i think it has to do with the same underlying “forces”… oh forget about it :)

Way to fake it, if that were the real german translation, you would have understood that “Shiza” isn’t a huzzah type thing, it’s german for ****.
